Quick Question!

By Bokmog, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

If my NPC has a Willpower of 3 and a Coercion of 0, does he only roll 3 Ability die? Or does he roll 2 ability die and upgrade 1 to an advantage die?

Alternatively, if someone is doing an opposed check against my NPC Discipline and Willpower, and his Discipline is 0, do I make my PC roll 3 difficulty die? Or do they roll 2 difficulty die and upgrade 1 to a challenge dice?

Or am I getting this completely wrong? Does the secondary skill have to have at least 1 rank in order for the upgrades to take place?

Thanks!

1st question is 3 greens.

2nd question is purples equal to whatever stat you're using to oppose with.

Does the secondary skill have to have at least 1 rank in order for the upgrades to take place?

Yes...except it's not a "secondary skill". You have Attributes (Brawn, Willpower, Intellect, etc), and you have Skills (Coercion, etc). The highest number is the base pool, and they start as green (G). The lower number is how many of those greens are upgraded to yellows (Y).

Willpower 3, Coercion 0: GGG <-- highest number is 3, so base is 3 greens

Willpower 3, Coercion 2: YYG <-- highest number is 3, so base is 3 greens, upgraded twice to yellow

Willpower 3, Coercion 3: YYY <--number in the base pool and number of upgrades are the same, so all are yellow

Willpower 3, Coercion 4: YYYG <-- highest number is now 4, so base is 4 greens, with three upgrades.

If the you are using that pool as a difficulty pool for a PC to roll against, switch all the greens for purples (P), and all the yellows to red ( R ). So a PC trying to use Coercion on a Hutt, and the Hutt has Willpower 3 and Discipline 4, the PC will be rolling against RRRP.
