2015 Worlds Results

By MajorJuggler, in X-Wing

I'm looking forward to see the top 16 lists. Did any Scum make it? Any Scum that weren't Bro Bots?

I wonder how many Imperial lists that didn't have Soontir Fel make it to top 16?

I wonder how many Rebels without TLT's made it to top 16?

From what little I've seen, I like the spread of ships MUCH better than Fat Turret meta of last year. I don't mind TLT's as much as Fat Turrets. Boost and shoot out of arc was worse to me. At least you get to fire at TLT ships.

I never faced the same list twice yesterday. I saw so much variety in people's builds. I went 2-6 in my first X-Wing tournament ever. I learned a lot and had a blast! Thanks FFG for allowing tournament rookies like me to enter this fabulous event.

Going to try and hunt down all the Top 16 lists tomorrow morning. I made 20th overall so will have some free time tomorrow. ;-)

Sorry to hear that Bob.

Looking at the standings, it sure seems like the cut to 16 is overly brutal, even bordering on random and unfair. So many people packed in at 30 points where the cut line is. If they'd cut to 32, everyone who had 30 points would be in, anyone below is out, with no need for tie-breakers. That seems a lot better to me than the alternative, and all to avoid playing 1 more game in elimination rounds.

I had a chance to talk with Wade about this during the break and he said that that was the standard across all of their games (with the exception of Cthulu since it has very few players). If they increased the cut for X-Wing, they'd feel they'd have to do it for all of their other games. When looked at that way, it made more sense to me since tacking on a round to every one of their other World Championships essentially adds another day's worth of games/rounds to the entire tournament. The number of rounds are also set, in general, so that all X-1s make the cut and everything else is extra. That didn't always happen at regional tourneys/store champs due to time restrictions, unfortunately, but it's why World's went 8 rounds.

This year you not only had to be the best, you had to be fairly lucky as well. If your dice went cold for a game and you lost a game you should have...thanks for playing. Here's your card and tshirt.

Well lads, now that we've seen some of the hype, we need to rule on a very important issue:

Wave 7,

best wave or BEST wave?

TLT ruins it for me frankly. Love the rest. But when I just sit and watch my opponent roll dice and negate the need for me to even bother, I consider that anti-interactive and un-fun. Or when I do it to him for that matter. Range, damage output, weakness, AT counter, all there, don't care doesn't matter; you take the tension and suspense out of the game when you remove dice in a dice game. (Hence why every time someone starts a 'diceless rules' thread every one points out why it's bad design for the feel of the game play) I hate playing them, I hate playing against them. But since they're here, and they're way too good, I have to use them or at least counter them, or at worse both. Personal opinion. Everything else stupidly I love the hell out of. Funky, I know, I'm weird and vocal and have an opinion on the internet, how terrible of me. I apologize for the rant, but I'm not sorry about it.

ForceSensitive, Edward Horne finished 43. Michael Jones apparently didn't have a good start (not sure what he finished).

anyone got the compilation of the top16 lists?

But is that due to the TLT, or is it because the players are unimaginative and unwilling to come up with lists that are a little bit more high risk, but a lot more fun to play?

anyone got a link/list of what the top squadrons are made up of? to see upgrade/ship combos, the k wing x3 list would be of interest

It was Miranda Doni with 2 Warden Squadrons. Each ship had TLT and Tactician.

The idea is that at range 2 in arc you can **** things hard. While TLT is range 2-3 only, the K-Wings have PWT's that are 3 dice at range one. Plus Miranda shenanigans. SLAM can be used to better position your ship for further Tactician wrangling next turn.

List has a 1 point initiative bid, it really helped to force Corran to move first.

What happened in the streamed game was that Corran got double stressed by a Tactician (3 stress with PtL) and then was pretty much forced to do nothing but go straight and get Tacticianed again and again because the K's got behind him. It was beautiful.

Pretty awesome list. I never thought about the tactician + TLT combo, and then stacking it 3 times. Too bad I'll never buy 3 of the **** K-wing.

When do the games start today? 10am?

I know MJ is going to work on getting the lists this morning but maybe we can crowd source some of the info before then. So let's see if we can consolidate some info and get some more of the top 16 lists:

Philip booth has 88a and b with hlc,at's, glitterstim, crackshot and fcs

I'm not a fan of the Heaver list, I personally don't like just fitting in an extra ship, just because I've got the points.

He is well on his way to his third world championship, I'm not saying he's wrong. It's not a list that appeals to me though.

Hoffman's list I like, fast and furious flying.

Most people would say an extra ship is always the better choice over upgrades. But to each their own.

See Spanish link above. a few more in there.

not before the M.O.V change, they wouldn't :P

And they are right, more ships means more opportunities for green dice to fail and more time to deal more damage.

It's not my thing though, I prefer two or three ships. Gives me room to maneuver, on the field and in my head. :P .

Paul needs to take initiative so that he wins the Vader/Poe draw in 1st round today.

Edit: nevermind. No VI Vader.

Haha I dunno, usually when you just squeeze in a ship, it's only 12/13 points.

So far I've found my MOV has done much better with 4/5 ships and losing cheap ones while killing ships that cost more.

Even when I've lost, I've managed to kill most of their list and gotten their large ship/s down to half health.

Poe is PS 10, Vader is 9. No draw.

I think if anything it is safe to say that Paul likes his Rebel 4 ship builds, brought one every year to Worlds (in one way or another)! I am in the camp of people who are wary of stacking upgrades on ships when I have 12 whole points.
