Where I'm from the two words mean exactly the same, though the "T" word can also be used in a derogatory fashion towards someone pretentious or behaving stupidly.

I enjoy playing with tlts.
I petition that everyone should play with tlts at least once in their lives. Mind you, they can be a handful; and you've got to be delicate as you maneuver them or you'll find yourself out of range.

I've been told I play with tlts to much and should realise there are other thing I could be having fun with. Others I play with would have more fun also.
