Mental Fortress vs Psyhic powers

By Lord911, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

Greetings,

The NPC has the Mental Fortress talent (page 118-119). He is attacked by a PC's Psychic blade (it is a psychic attack, 'couse the psyker uses his WP instead of his WS).. What happens?

Same question with Force Bolt / Force barrage; Bio-lightning, etc..

THX!

Psychic Blade: Nothing. The power's target is the psyker's hand.

Direct attack powers like bio lightning: Just what the talent says. D10+x damage to the psyer.

While, technically, the blade's target for manifesting is the psykers hand, the character with Mental Fortress will still be targeted by a psychic power when they are targeted with the blade as it comes slashing in their direction. The means of manifesting and targeting your victim with it are a bit different but in the end, they still get targeted by a psychic power.

Would you rule Fling the same way?

If I remember correctly, attacks with the blade are made as if you were attacking with a normal sword. However, the GM has a great deal of room to work with in such matters.

Using Fling to toss things at the fella with MF? No. The power would never connect to the person with MF, it only ever connects to the object being flung. Psychic Sword is described as being made of "pure psychic force". Therefore, it relies on psychic energy to cut which means when that sword connects to the target with MF, the psyker would have just made psychic contact with him or her instead of making psychic contact with a can of soup that will latter make contact with the fella with MF.
