Debris damage: can you brace?

By Chris Smith, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Came up in a game last week. Can you brace the 2 damage from debris down to 1?

Don't remember the exact card info but like mine fields if you have brace you can brace the two blue dice from minefields if they both role hits

No. You can only brace damage from an attack, not from other sources. Obstacle damage is not an attack. Neither is minefields.

No.

Nope. Defense Tokens are only used during Attacks.

Incorrect, Minefields damage is not an attack and, like Lyraeus pointed out, you can only use tokens against an attack.

No.

Who gets to role the 2 blue dice from minefields? Quite a few folks play it where if u hit mine field u opponent rolls the 2 blue die. If someone rolls the 2 dice from mine fields I'm going to brace it. Others play it where u get to roll the dice from hitting the mines. Depends on who I'm playing and if I want to avoid argument or not :) .

IMO the person hitting the mine should be the one to roll , I prefer to roll my own dice when I can LOL.

The card doesn't really specify who does the rolling. Like I said I play with some anal folks sometimes that like to do the rolling on mine fields so I always felt if that how they want it then I'm going to brace otherwise let me do the rolling . It's not like they are attacking me I don't understand why they don't get that part of mine fields .

The mines are not an attack though. They are an effect. It is the same reason that an Ace can't scatter the damage fr9m Cluster Bombs.

Doesn't matter who rolls the dice, that does not make it an attack "To perform an attack with a squadron or ship, resolve the following steps" you fail the first test of an attack. (p2)

Further "When a ship or squadron overlaps an obstacle after executing a maneuver, it resolves an effect that depends on the type of obstacle it overlapped:" It resolves an effect not an attack. (p8)

In my mind it doesn't matter who rolls the dice, you or your opponent are randomising the effect. If I roll 2 dice each outcome is equally as likely as when my opponent rolls the dice.

If you want to have it on record ask the question to FFG and have the rule put on the FAQ.

The objective doesn't specify. Any player could roll the dice. That said I think it's more common for the moving player to make the rolls.

Yeah, its vague but my reading would either be the controlling player who moved, OR the second player, whom is responsible for the objective (since it's his card - and his mines, so he should be the one following the instructions on it).

I let my opponent roll the dice. Means I can be less upset at my hot dice rolls. . .
