I think the FFG mods here are pretty much on point. They don't micromanage the forum, give the community plenty of freedom and only step in if things get totally out of hand, which by and large it doesn't.
Sure, there's a lot of grandstanding going on on the main forum at the moment. It'll die down; we've got a good community here.

There were a couple of threads discussing the ruling that both damage decks will be legal for tournaments for the foreseeable future. About 5 serious ones or so, there were also about a dozen or more threads trying to be funny and succeeding about as much as a Hutt succeeds at flying.

You should see the mayhem in the General Discussion forum on hcrealms for heroclix. It is an insane asylum, and they have almost overly active Mods.

Do the mods participate in the conversations or are they only there as anonymous hands of god, ready to lock and smite?
Because if you have mods that are part of the community, they'll only need a word or two to get things moving back on track and they'll hardly ever have to resort to locking threads and deleting posts.
