HKs....

By IG-58, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

So - not that I'm COMPLAINING, I'm delighted - but why HKs? Is there some justification? They DO look like the KotOR droids, after all.

FFG could feel free to print out some rakghouls, selkath and kinrath, if so inclined. :D

They wanted a generic assassin droid and IG series wasn't available because of the unique 88 so these were the best option.

And they have the art asset, popularity for the droids, and the fact they are in the card game already as assassin droids.

I believe in parts of the lore there is a secret repository of out of date technology on Hoth, which would explain this. However, I am finding myself unable to make a citation.

Not too unreasonable tbh. Going by the old fluff, they were built by as recently as the Clone Wars by the CIS. The HK-77's were the modern design used for what it's worth.

One thing that's always bewildered me about Star Wars is that over thousands of year the technology hasn't really changed.

Today's preview indicates that they should be decent hitters for the Merc faction. Two figures per activation, the Droid and Hunter keywords, and the elites ignore figures for LOS. They're made of glass for the price, though. Only 4 health on the regulars for 8 points, and 6 health on the elites for 11. They'll probably need some Hired Guns screening the enemy to be most effective.

I think the best way to protect them will be out-ranging their targets rather than a meet shield (although using both couldn't hurt).

I agree with a lot of ppl that the HK's seem like under whelming glass cannons. But i also think we are under valuing the range from 2 blues with the yellow maybe adding a square or two. These guys can hit from a long ways away and should be played as a pure sniper. 11 pts for the elites seems steep but adding priority target is a massive boost considering their play style.

With the tight maps i'm not sure how great a sniper class will be. But they will add an interesting dynamic to both skirmish and campaign games.

Yah, definite glass cannons. They do hit harder than Royal Guards, but trades considerable bulk for it. They could be good in a group when there are also several other units as well around (the elites excel here as they can hide behind other units). But in mid-late mission scenarios where the heroes outnumber the imperials, you'd be throwing away threat by deploying these.
