Viability of a Defender in a two ship build

By FlightyBombJack, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I have seen a lot of interceptors and phantoms flying alongside a decimator, but I have really been looking for an excuse to fly my defender lately. However I am still not sure if it could really be as viable as one of those super speedy dodger ships if I paired it only with a single decimator. I have been throwing around an idea lately for a possible build but I figure I would ask here to see if it could possibly hold any water before bringing it to the game store.

Rexler Brath

-heavy laser

-push the limit

-twin ion engine mk 2

Oicuun

-Vader

-Gunner

It leaves me with two points left over that could be used to upgrade that decimator further (maybe anti pursuit lasers). I have had a lot of luck using Oicunn in the past, but Rexler I haven't really used at all. I have flown a couple generic defenders, but that was before the twin ion engine upgrade.... those turns man, they are rough. Rexler looks great on paper, and should be able to use his ability with PTL, and clear it with the new engines without much trouble... I hope.

Thoughts?

Why not with Fett?

Brath, VI, TIE MKII, HLC

Fett, VI, Navigator, HLC, EU

Brath's ability being the cherry on top if you can get it, but by no means a goal in and of itself.

I like Predator much more than Push the Limit on Rexler Brath. Even with the TIE MkII, the Defender's dial does not lend itself well to abusing PtL -- you're basically locked into doing only banks, straights and K-turns if you want to take double actions every turn. Predator lets him re-roll some dice and focus without stressing himself, and it lets him take advantage of the hard turns on the Defender's dial.

In a two ship build, I would strongly recommend Lone Wolf on Brath. He can really use the defense bonus and it keeps him unstressed.

Hows about

Brath Pred, twin ion

Kenkirk Pred,Palp,isarde

100 pts

:)

or maybe

Oicunn Pred,title,palp,isarde

Brath pred,twin ion

100 pts

Heres one im looking at havent run it yetTIE Defender: · Colonel Vessery (35)

· Lone Wolf (2)

Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

VT-49 Decimator: · Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46)

Predator (3)

· Ysanne Isard (4)

· Emperor Palpatine (8)

Vessery has a target lock for the reroll, is Lone Wolf the best defensive option?

What is Palpatine's function?

Because Chiraneau rolls three dice, rerolls one with predator and then changes one focus to a hit. And he has a target lock as well to feed Vessery.

You must really not trust your dice to need the emperor. :D.

Gunner might be better, leaving you with three points.

Only just locked into do all the banks, straights and a k-turn. only. yknow. no sloops and trolls.

well, you do miss the 1 straight. but lol.

It's never going to work in fett's/Whisper's place

But since 2 ships are duller than dish water, this is a good thing

Means you get to experiment with actually cool stuff such as HLC Vess with homing missile bombers or Vader + ATC advance

Ive had success with this, have ran it with expose/interface before too for a bigger punch but lacking in movement. Both at 8 means rear shots first and RAC cleans up

Each picks a side of the board and cleans up. I save the Ion Pulse on Rex to either trap a large ship in a bad spot, or use it to keep them from circling the board edge.

As Biophysical said, Lone Wolf is great on Rex. I flew him fast in the first few rounds to get behind the enemy squad.

I beat two imperial swarms with this list, one squad that was two large and Carnor Jax, and a Dash with 2 B's list. I'm not sure how it would do against TLTs, now that those are out.

It's fun to fly, though.
