Mixing Exploration and Story Quests

By Artaterxes, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I like the co-operative expansions especially because they create a sense of exploration.

I know a lot of people felt the exploration was missing from the campaigns.

I think it would be interesting if future campaigns combined both "standard" maps and dungeon exploration.

For example, there could be "generic" exploration and peril cards, but also "quest-specific" cards. The quest-specific cards could be slotted in a specific position in the deck to control the exact number of dungeon rooms, but have other rooms leading up to it be randomized. The quest guide would give the backstory and just specify how to set up the cards.

Instead of being co-operative, the overlord would of course control the monsters. Expansions could supply both general and quest-specific cards, so you can use new monsters in any campaign dungeon.

It's 4 years too late but maybe since co-op expansions are highly rated we could see something like this.

What do you think? (Not that it really makes a difference, heh...)

I would encourage you to check out these .

Also, it's possible to at least make the monsters a surprise for the heroes. Check out encounter 2 of my map " puzzle pieces " to see what I mean.

Thanks! :)
