New player, new fleet. Suggestions greatly appreciated

By Churry, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hello everyone! I am just getting started to Armada. Played a few practice games, but haven't actually played an actual game yet since I just got my expansions in a couple of days ago. I have the following fleet ideas and was hoping if people could make any suggestions or if my ideas are just plain dumb.

Fleet 1 (300/300):

AFM II B (111 points)

General Dodonna

Gunnery Team

Advanced Projectors

X17 Turbolasers

AFM II B (91points)

Gunnery Team

Advanced Projectors

X17 Turbolasers

Fighters

Wedge

Dutch

X wing

B wing X 2

A wing X 2

The reason I went with the AFM II B rather than A is the flexibility to activate 3 squadrons. I thought this would outweigh 1 one extra front die in the front. I'll use the fighters to deny space, especially against Gladiators, then bombard ships.

Fleet 2 (300/300) (this is just a fun one I built to see if it could even work)

AFM II A (119)

General dodonna

Gunnery Team

Advanced Projectors

XX-9 Turbolasers

AFM II A (100)

Gunnery team

Advanced Projectors

x17 turbolasers

CR90 B (53)

Engine Techs

Dodonna's Pride

B wing x 2

Anyway, please let me know what you guys think!

Thank you!

Any feedback appreciated! :)

Looks pretty well spot on. Do everything you can to keep those whales at long range of basically everything, and let them come to you. When they do, your squadrons will be waiting to maul them.

Most people when they first start learning the AF2 game are way too aggressive with them. Generally speaking, fly towards your enemy at an oblique angle that will let you control the timing of the engagement. You won't likely have activation advantage with two ships, so it's even more important that you control the circumstances of the engagement the best you can.

If your opponent is flying up-close brawlers, use your fighters as a defensive deterrent: "sure, you could bring Demolisher up side of my whale... But look at these tasty B-wings just sitting here waiting for him."

Thanks for the tips, Ardaedhel! I played a friendly game over the weekend and got destroyed, haha. That was mostly because I'm still learning how to pilot effectively. Also my friend had a paragon AF2 and on turn 3, he double arch'ed me...pretty nasty stuff, but my fault for flying so horribly. Maybe I'll open up a new thread for this, but what is the best way to fly AF2s?
