Hi all, just starting into Armada. I play a lot of Imperial and Scum in X-Wing so decided to try the Rebels out in Armada. I currently have the core set and 1 each of the corvette, nebulon-b and fighters with 1 assault frigate on order. How many more ships and fighter packs would be good to get? I was thinking of at least 1 more assault frigate...do I need more than 2 of anything?

Well 1 more fight pack is great, I would recommend a second Nebulon-B and a second Assault Frigate.
The neb is mainly for the upgrade cards but you might want to try 3 on the field.
3 is neat, will be neater @ 400
Apart from an extra fighter pack (4 seems the magic #), though, you can focus on wave 2 stuff instead
2 of each is a minimum in my opinion. ESPECIALLY the assault frigate. (Best ship in the game currently hands down) If your thinking wave 2 stuff then 2 MC30s and 1 MC80 will do you good.

Also, you cant go wrong with 3 of everything except mc80s.
"Best ship in the game" is really overselling the poor frigate and underselling the small ships (and overselling the term "best", since it's meaningless without context)
It is, however, the most forgiving ship in the game. Great arcs/range/maneuverability/nav chart make it great for new players to learn the game with

The AF has the advanced projectors card, which is the best defensive upgrade in the game by far. If you are just starting rebels, 2 AFmk2s with advanced projectors will see your two main ships staying on the board for a good long while.
With wave 2, adding in a 'Redemption' Neb B with Raymus Antilles and projection specialists will give you a very forgiving, flexible fleet to fly.
