Someone make a petition to choose your opponent's damage deck for the match!
I think it would be hilarious if they did this. I am also all for it.

I think people need to bone up on the definitions of "right" and "privilege".
You have the right to play this game.
You have the privilege to be my opponent.
That sound right?

Buzzzzzzzzzzzz
Both are privileges. Thanks for playing.

As a frequent Maarek Stele flyer, I would sign the **** out of that petition.
Edited by DarthEnderXLol this is typical....I just bought a copy of the TFA core set mostly just for the new soon to be only legal damage deck (also want the new asteroids, so not a total waste..) and now they change their minds.
Im glad though
Very glad
So I guess this.means the newly reprinted original core sets won't be coming with the new damage deck
Was that really an issue?
I already used both damage decks.
Didn't realize I needed permission to use common sense.
FFG flip flops again.
They now qualify to run for president.

Well corporations are people and ffg couldn't be worse than trump.
I say no damage deck. All crits are direct hits.
My only regret is that I have but one like to give for this.
...
I'm just not gonna crack that joke.
I bought a new core for the tourney legal deck, gave away most of the tokens and all the templates so...
I dunno. X-Wing rocks, I'm lovin it.
How about this...take one of your old decks and mix it with your new deck...that's a lot of "2 damage cards"...wahaahaaa

everyone is Bossk

Mental image: FFG staff are reptillians and this was the joke all along.

Quick, file an Open Information Act request to be sure.
The rules were forcing you to get a new deck or stop playing that's the removal of choice, buy a new core or quit the game is no real choice at all.
In all honesty are you and all others who say this line will never buy the new core set?
and if people want an easy fix talk to your TO and ask if its ok to put a sticker over the 6 that have changed with the new effect. works just as good.

No I won't I'm a primary imperial player and the fo has not impressed me at all so I feel no need to own any, there's the t-70 which is okay but again not so good I can't wait for the single expansion.
The core set simply offers nothing I want.

Categorically yes, I would quit the game if forced to spend money on TFA ships.
I prefer this position, and I own both decks. Keep the sales of both core sets viable, at least until the old core has been sold with the new deck for a year or more.
A new player shouldn't have to show up to a tournament and find out that the shiny core set stuff they bought can't be used.

I agree completely. This is far more important then the fairness of one damage deck over the other.

Except for the ability to play in tournaments pre-flip-flop.

Can't wait for FFG to call everyone's bluff on this. When (not if) the new deck is the only one allowed for tournament play, I'm guessing people will realize that $40 every 3 years to be up-to-date isn't that horrible of a requirement.
Or maybe I'm wrong, in which case I'll hope to get some cheap lots from people looking to get out of the game. Win-win I say.

See that attitude is what sunk GW's player base, pay up or gtfo and people chose the later in ever increasing numbers.
You can't please all the people all the time but if you don't try to please as many as you can your rapid growth soon reverses.
No one who cares about the game wants anyone to leave, because failing games get cancelled.
As a GW refugee, I can say with authority this isn't the same thing, and you know it.
$80 rulebook, $50 army book, $50 supplements and who knows how much in models, objective cards, psychic power cards etc. Every 3 years for 40k--and that's if you only play one faction.
Compare that to the level of indignant outrage about the nerve of FFG to ask you to pay $40 every 3 years to be tournament relevant. $40 for $45 worth of retail models (whether or not they're worth that much to you), a few good cards (BB-8, Juke), an updated rulebook, updated maneuver templates, new scenarios (might not be your thing, but it might be somebody else's), and a much more fun, much more balanced damage deck!
I understand that this update is more expensive in other countries, but that's not any different from any other game system or...import for that matter. If you don't live in the country of origin, expect to pay more for the product. As someone who has a very tight budget, I understand the frustrations of import/export economics all too well, but don't make FFG to be at fault for that.
But let's get right down to how much this really effects you (this is the general you, by the way, not anyone in particular). If you don't play in "premier" level events, the new deck requirement doesn't affect you. How many of you can honestly say your local TOs would disqualify you from just a local store tourney? If you DO play in premier level events, but REFUSE to buy the new and improved core set, do you know anyone in the area who will let you borrow their deck? Hell, I bet you know someone that bought 2 of the new core set!
And if you want to play in a premier level event, refuse to scrape together $40-$60 in 3 months, and don't know anyone who can let you borrow a deck, then I'm sorry, you might have to sit this one out. Is that completely avoidable fate so cruel it'll make you quit?! And who is really bringing their brother-in-law-to-be (or whatever) who owns nothing of this game and yet will be heartbroken find out he can't attend a PREMIER level tournament??
And the new damage deck is awesome! The old one had 2 kinds of cards-- inconsequential or devastating. The new one has bad, Really Bad, and "what the-what?! BAD". It's more fun and you're missing out.
^I think you're underestimating the principle of not buying TFA products until and unless it's proven to be worthy of the mantle.
I wish there was a voting system for FFG community threads. So far I'd say most people are against the double deck ruling.
Great idea, to bad MOST of the player base doesn't bother with this or any other forum about the game!
All you see here is a competitive bias since for the most part the only people on this forum are the hard core competitive ones and they will always tend to be biased with the desire to mold the game to fit that. Proof of that is how so many play groups feel all the games they play must abide by tournament rules and will flat out refuse to play any other way.
Now the far larger majority of the player base, and by far larger I do mean well over 75%, will most likely think that having a choice to use what ever deck they have makes perfect sense because a casual player might just want to play in a official tournament some time and can use what they have instead of possibly being shut out, and it makes it easier when the only group you might have to play with is one of those that slavishly only uses tournament rules.
