Ehhh no. I hate being forced to use the new deck that has no blank useless crits when flying secondary turrests or guys with elite talents. It gives an advantage where there shouldn't be one. The new deck is objectively better from a design standpoint. This also doesn't add much to squad building, since it just becomes "Do I rely on secondary weapons? Do I rely on pilot abilities or Elite upgrades?" If the answer to any of these questions is "Yes" than you are stuck with the more painfull deck.

Edit: Hold on, I got that the wrong way around. I hate being forced to use the old, outdated deck when flying generic squadrons. The new one really enhances my experience.

I think it should be more about the balance of the competitive scene not whether you have, don't want, or are forced to buy the new core for the deck.

NO. The rules weren't restricting your freedom any more than other rules like Unique characters, one mod per ship, and point cost limits.

I think people need to bone up on the definitions of "right" and "privilege".

Simple fix sell new damage deck stand alone. And anybody flying wave 8 and beyond is required to use the new deck..

Yeah you can choose to cheat if that's what you want to do but there are consequences to doing so, that's been the case for every game ever.

No one anywhere was saying they were going to turn up after January and use the old deck anyway no matter what the rules said.

The rules were forcing you to get a new deck or stop playing that's the removal of choice, buy a new core or quit the game is no real choice at all.

Someone make a petition to choose your opponent's damage deck for the match!
