Can I play this before doing edge of empire?

By Roofeo, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

I am extremely new at rpg's and was wondering if this Star Wars series must be played in order or if any one of the games can be played?

Nah, they're all compatible but stand alone games - play them across game lines or not as you chose, in whatever order you chose.

Each covers one third of the themes found in SW: criminal/civilian (Edge), military (Age; specifically Rebels v. Empire), and Force (this one). All are completely compatible or exclusive. Pick which one fits your interests the most and go for it.

You only need one book to get going, and can expand from there. If you set up a group of Force users from F&D and one of them decided they wanted to become a Rebel Ace while another wanted to become an Explorer then you can of course pick up the other books when you feel the time is right.

There really isn't any 'order' to the core rule books. You can get one, two, or all of them, and have a good time. The rules are compatible with each other, though each 'setting' has its own unique flavor. Force and Destiny has the morality of being a Force-user, and avoiding the Dark Side. Edge of the Empire has the obligations of being a smuggler/freebooter/mercenary and the unsavory downsides of said obligations. Age of Rebellion has the Duty to the Rebellion...being a tinker, tailor, soldier or spy.
Your group could be made up of a Jedi Sentinel, a Rebellion Soldier, and a freelance Bounty Hunter, if you'd like.

Slightly off topic advice for the OP....

If you're new to RPGs, I would strongly recommend picking up at least one of the 3 beginner games. You can generally find them for about $20 online, though I got mine for $15 in like new condition. $20 still isn't a bad price because you're going to be paying at least $12 (probably $15) for each set of dice you buy for the game, and you're going to probably want at least two sets.

The beginner games will also give you a feel for the rules system, and the particular game setting (Edge, Age, or F&D) as each have somewhat different feels to them.

The beginner games are not a replacement for the core rulebooks though. There are a few differences, and the beginner games only support pregens with limited advancement options.

As has been mentioned, you can mix and match stuff from the rulebooks as much as you *like. Or you can just play one game exclusively and keep a more consistent "feel" to the game.

If you want to go on the cheap, start with a single beginner game, and maybe a second set of dice/beginner game. Play the adventure and the freebie followup that goes with it that you can find online. If you can spend more, buy the related CRB, and then your players can make their own characters for the beginner game adventure, and you have the full rules for the game. After that, get what interests you/your players. There's a lot of overlap between the three cores, so the main reason to get more than one is for the character creation chapter. The supplements are cheaper, have little to no overlap, but are more expensive for the amount of book you get.

*The one mix and match thing you should not do is put an Edge or Age lightsaber on a Force and Destiny Jedi character. Lightsabers in F&D are different for a reason.

Mixing is fun for sure, but definitely start with a Beginner Box as they are great value and have good adventures well themed to each of the 3 focuses. There is also a free PDF for each that extends them a lot, as well as 2 extra characters if you group is bigger than 4 PC's

Thanks everyone for information!! I think I'm going to start with age of rebellion first :) starting out as a jedi seems to easy!

Jedi are weak in this game, like Luke in episode 4, so You would soon discover that the soldier path way easier than the jedi's one :)

After all Bobba and Jango, Chewie and Han are all very powerful without the force, they just can't do the flashy stuff
