Need thoughts about a 10 person demo.

By Cubanboy, in Star Wars: Armada

So I invited a 10-15 friends over this Sunday for board games. I am going to break out armada. (I have a core and 2 of each ship exp with 4 fighter expans for each side) I have one table that we can play on.

I have a couple ideas but welcome Thoughts on what to do and if you have exp with doing something crazy like this input would be great.

(My table is only 5.5 X 3.75 feet but we are going to make it work)

I'm assuming a single table for 10 people?

No side table for there to be 2 games (1 armada, 1 some other game) going at once?

My thoughts are that people like to be involved and playing, not waiting for others to do there turns. So I'd suggest some way to do 2v2 with armada and then plunk the other 6 on a different game.

I don't know if that's possible in your situation though.

There is a closet full of other board/card games and we have a coffee table and room for people to play other games so yes there is other gaming going.

Most you can fit on a single game is probably going to be 4. That's just in terms of giving people enough room to crowd around a table. If you are actually wanting everyone to play, then just assign each person one ship.

You are a brave man. I would never attempt to demo Armada to that many at once!

What I have done with my game group of approximately that size is to show likely candidates the ships and stuff for the game and give a 15 minute overview/review while they are over playing other games. I then set up 1/1 time with those that show interest and play the learning scenario from the core set and then explain how the full game builds on that. If they enjoyed themselves up till that point I know I have them hooked!

The idea I had was 1 person on each side would command 1 of each ship and having a bunch of people picking a fighter type and getting to fly those around.

We will see and I will report.

The tough part of doing a demo game is building a balanced list. As someone mentioned there are alot of bids in Armada.

Points bid -easy go with even points then its a dice off

Mission bid-tough call maybe for this game have the same missions for both sides

fighter bid- maybe skip fighters altogether but thats no fun.

Rebels 6 players 1 capital ship and 2 fighters each

Imps 4 players 1 cap ship and 3 fighters each

I would keep it all generic or maybe have 1 or two characters, also for a large game consider giving two ship activations per side to keep things moving swiftly.

The idea I had was 1 person on each side would command 1 of each ship and having a bunch of people picking a fighter type and getting to fly those around.

We will see and I will report.

Hopefully you have people that are patient and arent turned off from armada because they have to wait for 9 other people to go before they can go again. They may think armada is boring as opposed to just realizing it's the waiting on 9 other people.

That's why I was suggesting you do a 2v2 and others on different games until they get their turn at the 2v2 armada table.
