BOMB-zukes - K-wings w/21 pts left over

By arnoldrew, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm running this list tomorrow in a local tournament. It did well in my only playtest, but I'm not sure what to do with the 21 points left over after paying for the K-wings. I used the Rebel Operative w/Ion Turret, but he got shredded on turn 2 or 3 by Vader and friends and my K-wings proceeded to win the match handily without his help. I use the Intel Agent to know which type of bomb to use and ended up dropping everything but one of the Prox Mines. I finished Vader off with a Seismic Charge.

Warden Squadron Pilot - K-wing (39 pts total)

Twin Laser Turret (6)

Extra Munitions (2)

Intelligence Agent (1)

Proximity Mines (3)

Ion Bombs (2)

Advanced SLAM (2)

Warden Squadron Pilot - K-wing (40 pts total)

Twin Laser Turret (6)

Extra Munitions (2)

Intelligence Agent (1)

Conner Net (4)

Seismic Charges (2)

Advanced SLAM (2)

Something that is 21 points (21 pts total)

Options:

Rookie Pilot(X-wing)

Rebel Operative(HWK-290) w/Ion Turret

Gold Squadron Pilot(Y-wing) w/Autoblaster and R2/R5

I have the following expansions. Please keep in mind that I don't have the normal Rebel filler of Z-95s or A-wings.

1xCore

1xTFA Core

1xX-wing

1xTIE Fighter

1xY-wing

1xTIE Advanced

1xMillenium Falcon

1xTIE Bomber

1xLambda Shuttle

1xHWK-290

1xImperial Aces

1xE-wing

1xTIE Defender

1xYT-2400

1xMost Wanted

1xStarviper

1xKhirazxxhzh

I would say drop 1 Intelligence agent and put in a Bwing

*sigh* The Intel Agents are key to how the list works, but I may just have to do exactly that.

Just run double copies of the first K-wing and 1 B-wing?

Just run double copies of the first K-wing and 1 B-wing?

I only have one copy of Prox Mines or I would do pretty much exactly that. :-(

Keep the Intelligent Agent, that is key to making this build work. Seen a similar build and the Intelligent Agent is super critical.

I see you don't have rebel aces, that would have given you some A-Wing options like a Green-AutoThrusters-Chardaan Refit-Veteran, and one more Elite point 1 skill. You could drop the AT and go with PTL which could help you turtle better (focus and evade).

But since you don't....go with Hawk Operative with Ion Cannon. If they ignore him then he will put one of them in a bombing situation.

I am considering a similar build to practice some day, basically I drop the TLTs, both with Conner Net and add in Proton Bombs. Then complete the build with a Gold Squadron w/R3-A2 and Ion Turret. The question is will there be a significant output drop from ditching the TLTs.

I just played against a similar build of yours, barely won (Sensor Jammer and Autothrusters). The TLTs did do some minimal damage but the primaries did more so thinking of making this sacrifice. With the advanced slam the TLTs only fired 2 times each.

But no matter what do not drop the Intelligent Agents.

Well, I ended up dropping one Intel Agent to bring a B-wing. The first game was against Vader, Juno, a Tempest (TIE Advanced generic), and a generic TIE/fo. I killed Juno with a Prox Mine and a range 1 B-wing shot. I killed Vader with TLT pings, a B-wing shot, and finished him with a Seismic Charge. Tempest was killed by another Prox Mine and (I think) TLT. TIE/fo flew around with one health for the entire game, was really annoying, and pinged away at the B-wing until I finally chased it down and killed it. I lost a K-wing and B-wing (crashed into an asteroid) but the last K-wing had full health. The intel agent was key to hitting Juno with the Prox Mine, but since it was on the first K-wing to go down I had to just guess for the others. It still worked out pretty well.

Game two was against Redline with FCS and all the missiles in the world, Soontir, and another Tempest. This game didn't go so well, purely because my opponent is an excellent player and pilot. The best I did was drop a Conner Net right before my first K-wing was destroyed (round 2) which the Tempest spent three rounds trying to avoid and not being in the fight. Redline and Soontir did just fine on their own, however. I got Redline to about half health and I hit the Tempest with a bomb but that was it. This guy didn't lose a ship the entire tournament.

I ended up getting 3rd out of 6. It was a fun tournament and I got an A-wing as a prize. The list was fun, too, but I don't know if I would fly it again.

Hm, sounds worth tweaking some for later games though. Gives me something to ponder, thanks.

Yes, thanks for posting. I have been trying to work out the best way to use my Kwing, and I do love my bombs. Have you considered using Miranda with just the TLT and Recon Specialist, or Gunner? You could use the second shot of the TLT to repair shields on a regular basis.
