I just got the core set, and I am wondering where to go next? I plan on getting both imperials and rebels, and I know I will need to own at least one pack of each of the fighter boxes. What are the priorities on what to get next? One more corvettes, nebulon frigate, and Victory SD? Theres so much cool stuff out there its hard to choose, and the big ships are also now coming out!
Just got the core, where to next?!

How much money do you have to spend? (ie, what is your budget?)

I personally recommend 1 of everything but I am working on a buying guide that will cover this.
The Nebulon pack is worth getting a couple of because of the upgrades. Assault Frigates are strong in pairs but are good in general and give you access to Advanced projectors. . . So many options!
The easiest (re: most forgiving) ships I've found are the Assault Frigate Mk2, due to its lovely wide dominant arcs, great maneuverability, long range (re: all range) weaponry and general durability; and the GSD because it's reasonably maneuverable and hits like an absolute terror
the more forgiving an option is, the less frustrating learning the game will be
Edited by ficklegreendiceYou definitely want one each of the CR90 and Nebulon. I still haven't bought a VSD but I did buy two core sets, and don't use both VSDs from that. That said, it does give you a valuable Commander. You may want at least two Nebulons as they come with two of the best neutral upgrades in the game right now, Intel Officer and XI-7 Turbolasers. But that's up to you.
After the CR90 and Nebulon, you'll definitely want at least one each of the Gladiator and Assault Frigate. These are two great ships you'll never likely regret buying, and even going into the future fleets with multiple of each will be common.
Fighters are currently more iffy. Imperials will definitely want two packs because of the amazing TIE Bomber and numerous excellent named pilots. Rebels will get a lot of good squadrons but individually they aren't amazing like the Imperial aces. Buy one pack for Rebs and try them out.
Wave 2 is where things get tricky and expensive. Players are definitely going to want one each of the ISD and MC80. The other two ships definitely come with great upgrades and offer unique abilities to their fleets. The Rogues and Villains are currently the least understood and least tested new product, with lots of great theories about how to play them but few reports on their actual table effectiveness.

Fairly flexible, I can probably buy one of each in the next 6 months, Im just wondering what is the most needed
Edited by generalchaos34I'd start with the AFmkII and GSD. The only real reason to go with the individual packs of the core ships is for the bonus cards included (important but not necessarily first buy stuff). But those would be my starting purchases.
Also, welcome aboard!
Edited by StasyIf you are looking at just wave 1 ships, you should make the Assault Frigate Mk2 and Gladiator your top priorities (AF if you plan on playing rebels mostly, GSD if you plan on playing imperial mostly).

I would purchase, then, in this order:
1 Gladiator blister
1 Assault Frigate blister
1 Rebel Squadron blister
1 Imperial Squadron blister
1 Victory blister
1 Nebulon blister
1 CR90 blister
imo two rebel fighter packs are a must. I wouldn't recommend buying two of any one expansion( both first packs aside) until wave two is here and you see what you like. Unless you just have to have multiples of some upgrades

I think if you plan on using nebs at all the neb expansion is necessary

I tried this from the start, by ignoring the AF... Boy, unless you're pretty good from the start, Nebs and CR90's are tough to be super good with. Best I managed was tying with my buddy running Imperials.
Don't get me wrong, I couldn't live without the Neb expansion cards. That's probably why I'm ok with buying an extra one just to hack it apart to make the Neb 2B (cards will be totally usable despite ship not after I borrow model parts).
thanks guys! It seems like its a little intimidating at first when venturing forth since the cores are a bit more of an investment than X wing was. Of course I am forgetting that it seems like the amount of ships and upgrade cards is not nearly as required as X-Wing, so theres that too! Now one thing I am confused by, the standard game size is 300 points and a table is 3' x 6' (i.e. about a standard folding table size)?

Correct, 300 pts, 3x6, to be increased to 400 pts. as soon as Wave 2 releases become official. That being said, I think most of us are playing with 400 pts. right now. Because we are cool.
Re: Intimidating; hence why I gave you the order I did and asked about your budget.
The Imperials need a fast, maneuverable, hard hitting ship to complement the Vic, and the Gladiator does this.
The Rebels need some strength and beef, hence the AFMk2
Then added in the squadrons, starting with Rebels, who probably need the stuff in there more than the Imps need the stuff in theirs. Like someone else said, you'll probably want multiple squadron packs. I leave that up to you; play a couple games to see which squadrons you like first.
As others have said, the Neb B titles are a must.
