Two 120pt. lists for upcoming tournament

By FuturistiKen, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've had success with both of the following in playtesting. My meta is largely "homebrew" lists with only a handful of truly competitive lists. Worst case scenario I will face one opponent flying TLT spam, one flying Palp/Vader/Soontir, one flying Bug Zappers, and/or one flying a TIE swarm. The rest of the players in my meta tend to take too few ships with too many upgrades, or else focus on cute synergies rather than true robustness in a competitive sense. I've had good success with BBBBZ in 100pt matches because most of my opponents just aren't prepared to face the onslaught of red dice and lots of hitpoints, and there's exactly one player that has the skills to consistently outmaneuver me with aces. Based on that experience...

Rebs

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Dash Rendar (36)
Predator (3)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Anti-Pursuit Lasers (2)
Outrider (5)
Total: 119
Here I typically keep my ships together at the beginning and go for a tight cluster of debris to maximize Dash's utility. I block with my Bs to keep them out of the doughnut if I'm in open space with Dash, and reposition to force APL bumps when he's in the rocks.
Imps
Omicron Group Pilot (21)
Omicron Group Pilot (21)
Omicron Group Pilot (21)
Darth Vader (3)
"Howlrunner" (18)
Soontir Fel (27)
Push the Limit (3)
Autothrusters (2)
Stealth Device (3)
Royal Guard TIE (0)
Total: 119
Here, I break Soontir out to use as a flanker, obviously. I go for a looser distribution of rocks to make it easier to maneuver the shuttles, but I try to keep them near a board edge anyway to make them harder to flank. Howlie stays close to the naked OGPs for rerolls, and Doomshuttle kites and shoots last in the hopes that I can force-choke to finish off a damaged enemy.
Both of them are the same basic strategy: lots of red dice and hitpoints, with one ship that's highly maneuverable to hopefully make it a little dicier to try to swoop around and get behind the ships with crappy dials.
Thoughts?

It sounds like you have a good handle on your meta. If it is as you say, then either list will be effective. If the 'worst' opposition you expect to face is palp shuttle+vader+Fel, then either list can beat that matchup (although if its 120 pts, its gotta be something more than that, unless a whole lot of extra points sunk into those 3 ships...)

Anyway, I think it depends on what do you fear the most? If its the Vader/Fel + palpmobile, perhaps changing the 3 shuttles into a gunner+vader Decimator would give you a huge edge. Dash +3 T70's has potential against that same matchup if you are good at blocking though. If TLT is your worst fear, then Your 3 shuttles + Soontir will be good. If its swarms, then Dash + 3 T70s should have little trouble...

Have not yet lost with the following list, but again I think that has a lot to do with sub-optimal lists flown against me.

Captain Oicunn (42)
Expert Handling (2)
Anti-Pursuit Lasers (2)
Dauntless (2)
Black Squadron Pilot (14)
Wingman (2)
Black Squadron Pilot (14)
Wingman (2)
Obsidian Squadron Pilot (13)
Obsidian Squadron Pilot (13)
Obsidian Squadron Pilot (13)
Total: 119
What are the glaring weaknesses of a list like this? One of the guys I playtested with thought TLT Y-Wings would struggle because they needed to target the TIEs first, but I'm not so sure. Seems to me (and others) that TLTs chew up Decimators - especially five of them (Gold + TLT = 24pts, 24 x 5 = 120)!!!
PS - highly recommend this list to anyone that's frustrated by a propensity for crashing your ships - make it work for you!!!
