Tell me about Holocrons in your game!

By RodianClone, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Much as I hate to post a thread that has been inactive for a while but...

Does anyone have any idea how the Empire would look upon someone trying to fence off a holocron, lightsaber, kyber crystal, or other Jedi related items? I'm assuming a one way trip to Kessel... At the very least.

My players are the type of crew who wouldn't hesitate to sell off that sort of thing for the right money. Surely there would be some kind of black market for Jedi paraphernalia?

Thanks in advance.

One of the recent issues of the Star Wars comic features a Hutt that has amassed a huge collection of Jedi and Sith artifacts. So there is at least one black market source for that stuff. However, this Hutt has a network of thieves working for him to "collect" such items so, the PCs might attract the WRONG kind of attention not just from the Empire but from underworld sources as well!

My players found a holocron that is actually just an index and is supposed to be like an OS for other holocrons at the Jedi Temple. Because it doesn't have any actual knowledge it was ignored when the holocron closet was cleaned out by the Empire.

It does store keywords though so it can access the correct holocron. I plan to use it to point out hidden jedi structures that are spread throughout the galaxy as it points out where they might find the info since it no longer connects with any other holocrons.

I had a brainstormy idea once for a holocron that was meant to be found in the creator's distant future, in a time with the Jedi and Sith "greatly reduced"... only then would it open for someone with much potential but no training. Of course, this would very likely happen in the Imperial era... a handful of Jedi left, and two Sith with their "disciples".

The Force-sensitive who opened it would of course have no idea that it was decidedly more aware and interactive than the typical holocron... it would react quite negatively upon leaning of Palpatine's rise, once it realized the truth.

Eventually, in helping this Force-sensitive to train and hide, it would also lead them to a long lost world, and a hidden structure, with the promise of a lightsaber or artifacts or more holocrons, and the revelation that it was also the key to the great vault.

Only when the holocron was used as a key would it be revealed that this vault was actually a tomb, and the creator would be awakened and made whole again. Even then, the exact nature and identity of the resurrected "ancient master" could be left vague.
