Rexler Brath Interaction

By Panic 217, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Say by some miracle of Happenstance after you Cluster missile and spend your Target lock, if you had only a single focus, and happened to by the grace of the gods roll AT LEAST 3 natural hit results on both attacks, and defender either has 0 agi or roll all blank greens....

WITH brath's ability (besides the fact the ship would be near dead) would you be able to flip up all 6 damage cards done( assuming no hull remains), or only the ones from a specific portion (either wave 1 or wave 2) of attacks via cluster Missile

Cluster Missiles are counted as two attacks. So yes, you could use his ability on both rolls (if they put a damage card on the ship) BUT you would need two focus tokens.

'After you perform AN attack...' is his wording, so you can perform his ability for each one, but you need to fulfill the focus token spending for each too.

I mean i never plan on running him with cluster, i just wanted to know how it would work. Thanks.

As InterceptorMad said, it's two attacks with the clusters and Rexler's ability would need a focus per attack. His ability triggers after an attack that deals damage and only applies the cards dealt by that attack, which means you can't hold his ability for the second attack and then try and flip the cards from both attacks.

I think Brath could only use his ability once even if he had two focus tokens. At least that's what the first bullet under Card Abilities says. Page 8 of the PDF version Rules Reference.

Its one use per opportunity. So yes that rule applies to him.

But, cluster missiles, gives him TWO opportunities to use his ability (as it is two attacks), and so he can use it once per.

I'm not so sure. There's nothing about opportunity in the description of Brath's ability. Also the rule that I referenced uses the "when defending" example, the defender's ability does not resolve twice for a single attack. The cluster missile is one attack performed twice.

Cluster Missiles are two distinct attacks, and any abilities which can trigger from an attack will trigger independently for each of the two. From the FAQ:

Cluster Missiles is treated as two separate attacks against the same target. During the second attack, the “Declare Defender and Weapon” step is skipped

The entry for Captain Jonus gives a good example for an ability that works on each.

As Buhallin said, it's two attacks. If the defender had some ability that triggered "when defending", he would get two opportunities to use his ability as well.

The Twin Laser Turret falls into the same line of logic, as that's considered two attacks against the same target also. Which means two opportunities for "when attacking" or "after an attack" or "when defending".

Gotcha. My win/loss ratio is intact.
