5 Cartel Marauders / Kihraxz

By Herr_Flick, in X-Wing Squad Lists

In the dicechugging vain of BBBBZ, has anybody tried out 5 Kihraxz yet?

I've tried 4 Kihraxz (mostly Black Sun Aces) in various configurations, and it was a lot of fun.

The options for combing cheap EPTs and illicit upgrades are really interesting, and is what keeps me hooked. Probably also the reason I didn't buy a 5th one.

Maybe this thread will convince me to buy number 5....

I did and it went okay. Not great, just okay.

The lack of repositioning and vulnerability to crits is what hurt them the most. You can overcome the repositioning with their great dial, but if the dice start going against you, or if you are against some crit machine like a Mangler or Etahn, it will cripple your team pretty fast. You'll find out that 2 afility and only 1 shield doesn't go a long way to protect your ship.

In the end, BBBBZ or 4 Tempest is better.

Kirhaxz are still really good ship that I fly often though, so taking 2-3 in a team to escort your ace is great!

yeap it works fine but you dont get a lot of action efficiency

I've got about five or six games under my belt with 5x Cartel Marauder and four games with 4x Black Sun Ace + Glitterstim. I agree with what most people have said so far... you really need your opponent to make the mistake of jousting you in order to pull out a serious chance for success.

That said, set up is easy, flying formations is entertaining (to me), and forces you to focus on game basics - I intend to continue to fly 5x Cartel Marauder on weekday nights and only pop out my 'serious' lists on weekends.

I'd like to run it, but I'm not buying 3 more Kihraxz's.

Kihraxz fighters are superior to naked B-wings in the current meta. The dial is the biggest difference IMO.

5 Cartels can actually chase down Unhinged Y-wings while 2 agi is less susceptible to 4xTLT alpha strikes.

Similarly, 4 BSAs with Predator would shred 4xTLT and swarms which are popular.

Where the B-wing still has the advantage is with the option to take Tactician which lets you take on aces which are becoming increasingly prevalent with the decline of fat turrets. Against everything else, either build is probably on par with its Rebel equivalent.

That's actually the reason why I fly more generics and ships with limited repositioning options these days. It's nice to go back to the basic sometimes: pick your move, and live or die with it.

Anyone try 4 and Serrissu? I figure she can boost the defense of the fighters. If you blast her, then it gives another round or two for the lowly Kihraxz fighters to blast away.

Black Sun Ace is 23 points plus Predator makes it 26.

Yes!!! I participate in one tournament last weekend with 5x Cartel Marauders. Got in to 5th place out of 16 players. It is pretty powerful list and has good potential but you just have to find that good style to fly it. Out of all seven games I have played with that squad I have lost only one game and that was against IG88B and IG88C on that tournament. ;)

Next time I have chance to play I will try out something similar but with four ships and with some new aspects that I was missing in that tournament last weekend.

Talonbane Cobra(28)

Kihraxz Fighter

Black Sun Ace(23)

Kihraxz Fighter

-Crack Shot(1)

Black Sun Ace(23)

Kihraxz Fighter

-Crack Shot(1)

Total of 100p..

Any advice on how to fly it? How did you handle specific builds? Did you face any Soontir Fels? How did you face off vs. them? Or any of the other standard builds? I haven't flown this, but just curious how you fly them. I'm kind of used to X-wings, but not sure how these are different. They do have the 1 hard turn. Use it often?

I haven't used the 5 Marauder list, but I am a big fan of the 4 Kihraxz lists. Here are a couple of lists I tried recently against a Bossk + 2 TLT thug list:

3x Black Sun Ace, Crackshot, Glitterstim

Cartel Marauder, Dead Man's switch

2x Black Sun Ace, Crackshot, Glitterstim

2x Black Sun Ace, Crackshot

Not sure of the merits of multiple glitterstims, but multiple crackshots is very nice.

4 of them gouging away at the same target is really nasty and a super alpha strike.

The next list I want to try is:

T. Cobra, Crackshot, Glitterstim

2x Black Sun Ace, Crackshot

Serrisu, Crackshot

This! I have 4 Kihfklajkfklh's already and can't decide if I want a fifth. I wonder if MajorJuggler would run the numbers for this combo.

Rather than start a new thread, I will drop this here. I am very intrigued by the possibilities of this list:

Cartel Marauder (20) x2
Syndicate Thug (18) x2
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Binayre Pirate (12)
Total: 100
Another five ship list but a balance of brawler vs. TLT goodness. Could drop the Z and get goodies for the other ships but I loves me that extra ship for blockage and I have always been surprised by the additional gun in BBBBZ lists. I just theory-crafted this thing today but I think I might love it.

Sometimes it's just a matter of seeing if it works for you. The jousting numbers are one thing, but they don't take into account everything. Use them as a guide, but not as a iron rule. If it works for you, then it works for you no matter what the numbers say.

True, but for a list that is absolutely born to joust and only to joust, the numbers mean a whole lot.

I'm looking at running the following in the next tournament:

Guri - Predator, Autothrusters, Sensor Jammer (40)

3 x Cartel Marauder (20)

The opponent has to pick between going for a tricky to hit Guri whilst 3 3 Attack ships roam around.

Or go for the Kihraxz's and leave Guri free to do damage at will. She'll then be left to deal with hopefully reduced enemy ships, with hopefully lots of hits left on her to do it.
