Firespray (imperial) love. Where is it?

By Krynn007, in X-Wing

Something I never see discussed anymore is firesprays

I feel (especially with the new tournament rules) they are seeing less and less table time

Am I the only one who thinks this?

All firesprays in general, but more so the Imperial version.

With the newer (scum) kath and boba they are more likely to be picked over their imperial counterparts

I know some of you out there still find a use

I've used imp kath not long ago, but it's something I never see or hear about.

It feels it's been awhile since I've heard of one in a top spot.

Now with these new tournament rules if there is any big ship it'll more likely be the shuttle with the emperor, a dash and the few brave enough to go duel aggressors

This ruling I feel really hurts the firespray.

10 hp, two evades, doing 5 dmg can net you a nice chunk of pts.

I hope wave 8/9 or a ace pack includes something for the firesprays. Or at least for the Imperial.

Would love to see new pilots and maybe paint job (for those of us who don't paint)

Callus seems like he'll have potential on them. His ability frees you to take the Evade action on defense, knowing you'll still be able to change at least one eyeball when attacking your target.

Kallus will help. A little.

Firesprays are large ships that want to dogfight. They can only dogfight because of their aux arc. Their major slots for upgrade are expensive, don't work out of that arc, are inefficient (missiles/torps), or fall into more than one of those categories.

I love firesprays but the imperial versions are overcosted by ~2pts and have very lackluster Pilot abilities. Both the BR and now the MOV rules have hurt firesprays as well. I want to see an Imperial Warmachine aces pack with new pilots for the firesprays, bombers and defenders...a few upgrades here and there and we're good to go again.

Unfortunately, Imperial Boba is pretty terrible. And there are just better big base options for Imperials now.

I don't know how solid the Scum meta is, but I think it keeps getting new toys that pull it away from something as ancient as the Firespray model, but I could see it coming back -- the pilot skills are certainly reasonable.

But I don't expect any direct love or attention -- they have enough loadout options that they'll potentially benefit from every release -- someone just needs to find the right combo.

Triple Bounty Hunters can still be a nasty surprise for people and it is hard to deal with even in today's meta. You can't do that with Scum.

The only time I managed to use Imp Fett's ability was when I mind-tricked a beginner to get into the perfect spot to get ass cannoned.

Easiest way to fix the Firespray would be to just let Imperials use the S&V pilot cards, but I don't see it happening. It's gonna stay in limbo with the Scyk and non-IA X for some time.

And firesprays are also the only wave 1-2 ship with no focused updates. A's and interceptors got Aces, Falcon has plenty, Y's keep getting good stuff, advanced are great, x's even got an update with the transport and now integrated Astros... Firespray got a new faction but nothing firespray specific except a single title that isn't any better than the original since extra munitions is a toro slot anyway.

It's a Scum ship, and it's finally where it belongs.

Scum Boba and Kath are so much better than their Imperial equivalents, the Mandalorian Merc is a killer elite and Emon is just hilarious.

That said, Imps are still the only ones who can run three of them in one list.

It's gonna stay in limbo with the Scyk and non-IA X for some time.

Pssst...

There is no reason to ever take an xwing without the Integrated astromech ever again. If you can't spare 1pt you're better off reorganizing your list without the xwing.

It kinda got replaced by the decimator.

Bobba sucks but Kath has options to trigger her ability now so she's not terrible but really the scum versions just blow them away.

It should have never been an Imperial ship to begin with. How about they focus their attention on fixing up real Imperial ships that need some love, like the Defender and Bomber?

Their major slots for upgrade [...] don't work out of that arc [...]

Can you give an example of a Firespray upgrade that doesn't work out of the rear arc aside from missiles/torpedoes? I can't think of any.

EDIT: Nevermind, just realized you're probably talking about cannons. A firespray pilot that could use cannons in the rear arc (essentially the same as what Moralo Eval does for the Hound's Tooth) would be awesome.

Yep. Cannons in Aux arc would make it amazing fast. But torps/missiles would also make it interesting in aux arc.

I want Boba Fett as a crew member... Anyone else ready for that it would be amazing... also keep in mind Boba Fett has another ship....just saying

I think PhantomFO is right about Callus. Cheapo Bounty Hunter + Callus will be a really solid 35 points.

Firesprays are awesome, my favorite ship for sure.

They do need help though, both imperial and scum, although imperial a bit more since their pilot abilities are poor.

While cannons out of the rear would be cool, I don't think offense is the firespray's problem, it's defense. Even though it has 10 hit points, 2 agility, and the evade action, it can still be quite squishy, especially if stuck in a swarm shooting gallery.

Unfortunately the aggressor is better than the firespray in almost every way, though ironically I feel head to head the firespray can be better.

So what's the best fix? An extra crew slot would be nice, a way to get the systems slot would be great as well. I think best fix might be a cheap or free way to get engine upgrade without taking up the modification slot, so you could also take auto thrusters.

As mentioned lots of wave 1-2 ships have had some lovin.

Even the shuttle imo got a nice buff and is doing well (better?) with the emperor

Bombers imo are great and I use bombers way more than firesprays.

The Defender could use lovin, but again the firespray has been out longer, and imo has fallen behind the ships from its time

Awing

Bwing

Xwing

Advanced

Bombers

Ywing

Interceptors

Falcon

Shuttle (because of the Palpatine imo)

And some would say Hwk's with tlt

They have all had some sort of treatment. Some more than others.

The Defender while it could use a fix, it's not being hindered with the new big ship ruling in tournament.

People may opt for a defender vs a firespray just for the fact they won't lose pts if it loses half its dmg.

I think and especially with this new ruling firesprays took a huge hit, and could use some extra needed attention

I'd like to see how 3 do in the new meta,

How would 3 do? Solidly. How could they do if they had 7pts to play with instead of just a 1pt init bid?

So while everyone else is running Palpmobiles with 2 aces, I've found it much more fun with 2 bounty hunters with tactician. Try it. You wont regret it.

If Scum and Villainy had been a launch faction then it would've never happened. I understand why they did what they did though.

Firesprays over all are to predictable when it comes to moves. If your heading into a corner there is a chance your next move is something predictable. If Firesprays had a 1 turn I think it would greatly improve the play ability. Firespray is my favorite ship. I took Fett and Scarlet scum to WI Regionals this year hoping they would be competitive. Wanting to be paired up against 2 Aggressors. I played against 1. I won half my matches. Swarms and 360 ships just pick Firesprays apart. They did just fine against 3 to 4 small ship builds. The Ghost will have may experience unless it comes with a 1 turn. At least it can equip a turret.

Suppose this load out?

Kallus gives a good offence and defence buff. Krassis rerolls 1 dice on the cluster that turns up blank and have a second packed away for another pass?

Call this one "The Bull and the Dancer". The idea is to have Whisper and Boba split up. Boba is the obvious target and much easier to hit, Kallus however will give him some staying power as well as the Lone wolf rerolls. Use his ability to drop a Conner Net on a target when needed and Countermeasures for that sweet range 1 Procket shot into a foe. (Could also use Concussion missles)

Krasis.

It's love we Scummers don't have. I'm really hoping we get another round of Firespray pilots so we can unite Mr. Trelix with the rest of his family.

Why would you put proton rockets on a firespray? It's normal range one attack is already 4.

Sign me up! That Krassis loadout looks awesome!

I agree with what has been said that Agent Kallus is a boon to Imperial Firesprays. I think Imperial-only upgrade cards are the place to look for making these ships sing. The problem with Kallus is that swarms are slowly making their way back, so it seems like he was just a little too late. To counter that, what about throwing Ruthlessness on Kath or Boba in addition to Agent Kallus? It functions to balance the scale a bit against tougher matchups when you are outnumbered. (That said, I think arc-dodgers are the toughest matchups for Firesprays. Soontir Fel can usually have his way with them, and there's not much they can do).
