Hi

Am looking at producing a squad with the limit that can only have one named pilot. Normally I favour multiple named pilots as I prefer to have a high pilot skill so that can move last (more of less) and arc dodge.

As i'm only working with the TFA core set, A and B wings and Rebel Aces have narrowed it down to 3 possible options for the named pilot:

Jake Farrell with PTL, Outmanoeuvre, Chardaan Refit

Poe Dameron with PTL, BB8

Ten Numb with FCS, Mangler Cannon and Jan Ors

As only one named pilot Jake is a decent option as can last although the damage he will be able to do it limited. Reluctant to add prockets as I have pretty bad luck with them. Poe can do his usual green manoeuvre, barrel roll, PTL, move to lose stress and then normal action. Ten numb obviously will do most damage and the addition of Jan Ors means can evade instead of focus which seems the better option for survival with only one green dice. Not too worried about having focus for attack due to the FCS.

Anyone have any they prefer the look of, i'm currently leaning toward Jake but would like to know what others think

I'm liking Poe I think. Bring a pair of genericourse B-wings and spice to flavor.

If you are looking at Jake or Poe, it would be a good idea to get your hands on autothrusters

Outmanoeuvre Jake works best if you have some other ships that are reasonably scary otherwise your opponent will go after Jake first and you won't get much value out of outmanoeuvre. Perhaps a trio of b-wings or a mix of b-wing & x-wings.

Poe w/ BB-8, PTL (and autothrusters if you can get it) is pretty decent, especially if you can get some control elements into the list so that Poe can avoid arcs easier. Overall, he's more potent than Jake but not as dodgy.

Ten Numb is of questionable value. I've seen him used decently along with airen cracken, but unless you build a list around him, he's not worth his points, imho.

I've ordered a StarViper for the Autothrusters but is gonna be a bit close as to whether they get here on time but they look really good for the T-70 and the B-wing. Ten Numb always looks like a gamble, a lot of points in a 1 agility ship but the crits could do a lot of damage quickly if he can be kept alive long enough.

Poe and B-wings could be a good option but only got 2 B-wings so the screaming eagles are out for now.

Based on what you have, how about:

Poe w/ BB-8, PTL & autos = 38

2 blue squad pilots = 22 x 2

1 proto pilot w/ chardaan & autos = 17

I would suggest running the a-wing in front of the b-wings and moving them up together at first (although the a-wing cannot really slow roll, but that's okay). Based on your opponent's deployment, you can either have Poe flank (or act as bait) or keep him somewhat close to your other ships (not too close because you don't want to limit his BB-8 rolling). The a-wing here is for control. He blocks up your opponent's likely moves so that Poe can get out of arcs and put his TL + focus attack to good use. B-wings will fly straight at the enemy taking and dishing out hits until they are dead (but hopefully taking out an equal number of stuff).

You do have to be a bit careful with Poe in this list. He's your closer so don't risk him needlessly. If you lose him the rest of your list is going to really struggle against certain matchups.

I personally prefer the triple-move version of Poe with R2-D2, simply because he's going to be doing a lot of greens anywhere, and you miiiiight end up spending that focus anyway.

From your options, I'd throw a vote in for Poe.

Cheers guys. Blade's set up looks pretty good and I guess with A-wing in front of the B's the opponent may be tempted to attack the A at closer range and ignore the B's for a while. My auto thrusters have now arrived though, just in time, a long with an x-wing and e-wing expansion.

R5-P9 being the better choice as the focus token will quite often stay available.

I like this list, although having small kids means I find silly rhymes more amusing than I did in my younger days. The only thing I don't like about it is the 'manglers'. And I don't think 2 intel agents are needed----I'd rather see Jan ors on one b-wing (you don't need the initiative bid anyway). I would be tempted to replace the manglers with shield upgrades, but that's not necessarily any better....

I would use R5-P9 if I had it but unfortunately it's not an option but it does seem like Poe was designed with it in mind. The problem with the B-wings are keeping them alive with the number of points that are invested in them. At high PS can barrel roll out of arcs but going early they are likely to be targets. it may well be worth dropping the a-wing and upgrading the b-wings to dagger squadron for the extra PS.

I've also now acquired the x-wing and e-wing expansions so it brings wedge in as a possibility as well as etahn or corran in the e-wing. Sneaking R7-T1 on wedge would give him the option to boost on occasion.

Went with your advice blade and worked pretty well. As always the a-wing was the one that lasted the best, gotta love them

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread but another tournament has come up with the same stipulation. Looking at the pilots I now have available etahn seems good as his ability will boost the other ships attacks, adding a crit to the mix. However, as he's my only named option should I be worried about the low PS?

Not necessarily. He generally wants to fly alongside as many guns as possible. Lots,of guns gives you lots of blocking options to deal with higher PS.

It's a different way of dealing with being out PS'd but very effective if you can get the blocks. Depends on your flying style really.
