Question on Etahn's ability

By WGNF911, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Searched around and scanned the FAQ and didn't find anything so if this is a duplicated question, my apologies. This came up a week or two ago and it's still bugging me a tad. Wondering if the more experienced folk might help.

When reading Etahn's ability, it seems like it might apply not only to him when he is attacking but to friendly ships as well.

When an enemy ship inside your firing arc at Range 1-3 is defending, the attacker may change 1 of its hit results to a critical hit.

The reason for my hesitation is that when abilities address that ship/pilot specifically is says "you" or "your" in the narrative. Etahn's narrative starts with "...your firing arc..." but then moves to third person to discuss "the attacker" as opposed to saying, "...you may change 1 of your hit...".

Thanks in advance for clearing things up. Y'all have a great day.

Etahn works for everyone.

So Etahn with a bunch of cheap Z-95's is a bit of a thing. Not huge, but it works and can be frightful for say a Decimator.

Note that Etahn only specifies that the defending ship must be an enemy, not that the attacker must be friendly. So in a free for all, everyone benefits from your ability.

I never thought about that one. Methinks free for alls might be back on the agenda.

Etahn A'Baht should not be allowed in Epic games.

You have been warned...

Etahn's a great support act. If you can fly him in a tight little trio with a couple of heavy hitters, everybody gets to use him, including Etahn.

Etahn Abaht loadout that I like:

Fire Control System

R7 Astromech

Elusiveness

If someone higher initiative shoots at him, you try to have a target lock on him so he has to re-roll.

If someone lower initiative is likely to be the shooter, you fire at him with Etahn so he gets the target lock to use on defense.

Elusiveness if you happen to be caught with your pants down.

When I fly him, I really like to include Airen Cracken, because if Etahn still got caught with his pants down (say he bumped or something) then when Airen Fires, he can give Etahn a quick action for defense.

I like to run him with two Rookie A-Wings, Airen Cracken, and a Z-95. Five ship swarm that can encircle enemies quickly from all sides to maximize Etahn's ability.

OK, awesome, that's what I thought. Thanks for the feedback. Do what the card says; right?

I've been wanting to put an E-Wing on the board but haven't for the numerous documented reasons listed on other posts.

Also, since it came up, what is your definition of a free-for-all? How many points, players, etc?

As many players as you want, not more than 35 points at the most, though the 29 points over in the squad lists forum now is even better, it keeps out the top aces and so levels the field more. No Soontirs and definitely no Hans.

I like it! Bringing it up to 50 or 60 points could make for some very crowded fun but if you play on a larger surface . . .

Thanks.

Multi-player games are a blast!
