The $1000+ club... Have you spent more than you thought on X-Wing?

By DanDoulogos, in X-Wing

Probably closer to $2000 USD, which is still a fraction of what I had invested in my Magic collection before I liquidated it, and doesn't come close to what I have wrapped up in snowboards and mountain bikes. So yeah, since it's my only nerdy hobby these days I don't feel bad about it at all. It goes pretty far in terms of scratching my gaming, modeling, collecting, and general entertainment itches all at once so it seems like a pretty good deal to me. I've even bought the vast majority of my collection at retail from my FLGS, just to support them in supporting my hobby. Of course I'm not married and don't have children to support, but my girlfriend actually finds my passion for the hobby kind of endearing.

Bottom line, money well spent for me - FFG and my FLGS will be getting more from me as soon as the new bases, dials, and of course new ships are out!

Pretty much 30-80$ out of every paycheck this last summer, not accounting for gas to tournaments etc. Best money I ever spent because it got me closer to my dad and younger brother.

even though I ususally get at least two of evey ship, some large based ones I only have one of, X-wing is still one of my cheaper vices, I'm also a model railroader (it can be $500 or better for a single locomotive), I'm in the process of restoring my old 'vette (engine rebuild and exhaust system will run $5000, never mind what the rest of the car needs, I 'm focused on powertrain at the moment). On top of that I'm Canadian, so I need my Tim Horton's coffee every day, twice on Monday :D

Edit, I also collect diecast models of construction equipment, you don't even want to know the prices on some of that....

I am closer to three grand actually. I am counting new selves and a lot of cool storage carts and three nice folding tables, but yeah i have purchased all kinds of coolness in the last three'ish years.

Check out my profile to see all of it... thus far. I am making my own crazy ships too, and while I do not have these projects done I do have all of the stuff to finish them.

:)

JBR7, you are in the JBR7 club.

Not that I can talk, X-wing started a star wars avalanche for me.

Hard to say how much I've spent of X-Wing.

What's the conversion rate for $1000 to Galactic Credit Standard?

I am starting to think I should include my X-Wing miniatures on my insurance. If they were stolen, they do represent a sizable investment...

I'm in the "don't want to really add it up" camp but also have a foot in the "I don't really care" camp. This is still cheaper than a lot of other hobbies (such as golf) and not even close in a year to what I have spent previously on clubbing and drinking.

I didn't intend it to get like this, however. The wife bought me a core set for Christmas and I started buying the models to stash away till the kids are old enough and then I started playing locally, and now have at least 1 of everything and usually 2 of most everything, except epics (which, haha, I have yet to unbox). I got most of them either via Amazon, eBay or MiniatureMarket (I still don't have a LGS I frequent) so I rarely paid anything close to full-price for them and often got some awesome deals (a new Tantive for $40 on eBay, a transport for $20 on Jet and a Raider for $51 on ebay). but if I could go back and re-do my buying habits, I wouldn't buy almost all of it at once but would buy a few models and play them, then buy a few more. With the limited number of real-life games I am able to get in (2-3 a month), it's going to be a while I play with either, let alone both Phantoms, both K-Wings, both TIE Punishers, etc.

...and yet I'm strangely excited about Wave 8 - can't wait to buy yet MORE ships that I don't know when I'll even unbox, let alone play with.

Oh, **** you, FFG. And well played.

I'm up to almost $1,300 for just ships. Toss in mats, storage, paints, tournament fees, and then it's even more. Add in Armada also and I'm over 2K easy.

Best money I ever spent because it got me closer to my dad and younger brother.

if that isn't the best use for money, I don't know what is.

According to the X-Wing spread sheet I'm at $1500+. That's just for the year since I got started in January of 2015. Almost wish I hadn't run the numbers. But nothing was hurt by the expenditure so wth.

Definitely over-acquired. Need to get rid of some ships, but sort of annoying to go back through and figure out which upgrade cards go with what.

Yeah, I bought a 3rd Shuttle and a 4th Brobot. I think I'm in The Club.

Well, as the fellas from Top Gear demonstrated, it can be cheaper to get into Rallycross auto racing than golf. Of course, I take Top Gear with a healthy dash of salt, but it's a similar ballpark.

I just tallied up my collection and a rough estimate is 2100. No regrets whatsoever. This game is the shizzzzzzz

I have almost spent $1K, however, I've bought everything from miniatures market. If I would have paid retail, just in ships alone, it would be slightly over $1300 US dollars

I am at $1769.00 as of right now. This is the third year my wife and I have been playing. We play a few times a week at home and with friends on the weekend. Our X-Wing group is fairly big (7) regulars and (4) once a month players. We also play once in a while at the LGS.

Based on just four hours a week (or four (1) hour games) all this fun has cost just $2.83 per game.

I never looked at the cost this way but wow what a super cost effective way to have fun and relax.

I have knowingly spent over a grand on ships since the game came out.

Best money I ever spent, really.

Now the problem is carrying and using it all!

We can stop at anytime though, we're not addicted, honest....

I'm telling myself that everytime I buy something x-wing related that I don't really need.. :D

you know what they say about denial, hm? ;)

I'm over the 1k mark myself. Not by a ton, but if you figure just MSRP it's a bit more. Now if you figure everything else I've bought from FFG...

But if you compare it to a 5 packs of cigarettes a week, what I've spent on X-Wing over the last 3 or so years would buy about 11 months worth of smokes.

the problem is getting the filter to stick on that raider, roll it in paper and... well, better quit smoking right in that moment.

Oh boy, let me count how much I spent. Looks like the total is only $435 assuming MSRP. Considering many of those ships I got as gifts and almost everything I bought was 33% off from miniaturemarket, my true spending amount is likely closer to a couple hundred. Which isn't bad at all for the amount of enjoyment I've received from X-wing over the last couple years.

So to get back to the topic at hand, I'm a *little* off from the $1000+ club. :P

I'm part of the club! Using the CSI online cart to total it for me, I've spent just shy of $1006 on X-Wing ships. Since most of my shopping is done online, that was the most accurate way of calculating my collection.

im probably around 600$ or so. but not $1000. =/

Armada is taking like 300$ also. between them, probably $1000.

But I'm gonna wean off X-wing a little. Wave8 is gonna be a tie proto and gozanti carrier probably. Maybe a scum ship if theyre good.

My MSRP is $1050 + the 4 crew from the Tantive (they were $20). But between prizes, raffles, sales, amazon and miniature market I've saved quite a bit spending a estimated $644 before sales tax.

Can we use this time to admit on the record it's more expensive than regular crack?
