Is Dark Heresy 2e good enough to warrant a Rogue Trader 2e?

By Joeker, in Rogue Trader

I feel that DH2e is an improvement over DH1e, it's more flexible and more balanced, imo. Do you feel that Rouge Trader should get a 2e too? What would you want in it? Should RT just be a source book for DH2e?

I like that. clever idea.

I'm not sure if it will, but I wouldn't mind if it did, and as for just being a source book for DH2, I really don't like the idea, but I definitely can't come up with a good reason for them NOT to. One of the biggest grumbles I believe people have had with the FFG 40K stuff was connectivity; can a Space Marine, an Inquisitor, a Rogue Trader, and a Guardsman stand in the same room? If it's got clearance for the Astartes, yes. ;) Can they fight the same stuff? The Guard prove that they can, as most things Space Marines are called upon to shock-rush for a little while, and then leave, the Guardsmen are expected to slog it out with afterwards, an both Inquisitors and Rogue Traders can stand alongside them, or direct, from a safe distance. Having said that, FFG, even for all of their copy-pasting "look, it's the same book, with a Space Marine skin stapled on, this time" antics, made that many lines, and then couldn't keep most similar enough to easily run alongside. If they made "Rogue Trader 2.0" as a source book for DH2, at least the rules sets should be similar enough to allow them to work together. I'd be more a fan of "Deathwatch 2.0" doing it, if only to shoehorn in how Space Marines would work, but Rogue Trader seems such a better game, that I'd rather they do that one.

So, the question then becomes did DH2 do well enough to keep getting books? I don't know, personally, though I do own the book, now; haven't bought any DH2 support/splat books, yet. I suppose it'll depend on how well Star Wars is doing, and how popular it will be once the Force Awakens comes along, and smashes all expectations, or Jar Jar Binkses all over itself. Here's hoping it is good, but then it might keep 40K stuff delayed.

What would be needed for a source book? Navigators, astropaths, starship combat, and a way to interpret Influence into PF....could almost be the same thing.

Yes, it could be a source book.

And probably should be.

... why must this discussion run in two separate forums at the same time? :S

Science?

Personal opinion-if there is to be a RT2, it should feel like I'm buying something new, not just a rehash of the first RT with a new cover and perhaps a few different places. I can make places. The gestalt of the rules and the background should be what we're aiming for.

And, yes, it should be it's own seperate set of rules from DH2.

I don't think we realy need an RT 2e, but it couldn't hurt. I don't like the changes that were made with DH2e - it was made too bare bones in terms of skills/talents at jump. Your numbers are solid, but you don't do much well.

Bringing RT in line with BC/OW - in terms of the more free form method (no rank structure) - would be perfect. If RT PCs are supposed to be the best of the best in terms of mortals, limiting what they can do seems silly. Similarly, in practice, RT PCs tend to have a tendency to be and feel like special snowflakes with these deep backgrounds and history. As such, it wouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility for an AM to have some technical savy or a Seneschal have learned how to pilot strike craft. These sorts of things are generally not possible because you're limited to the what's in your ranks. Oddities can be reached by gaming the origins, but that feels forced.

In sum, RT 2e... yes, please. DH 2e... stay away from my RT.

God, I hope RT gets a second edition. Would personally buy several copies of the Core, and every suppliment to go with it.
