Reclamation encounter 1

By Vancheng, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hi! Recalamtion is a Labyrinth of Ruin Act 1 quest, and we are going to play it next week, me as OL, using Raythen plot deck. I have two questions:

1) How quest rules interact with Petty Theft.

Rules say: If heroes reveal the unique search token, read the following aloud:.... The hero draws a Search card as normal and is Cursed... *then we shuffle unique token with the others*.... When the unique search token is revealed and it is the only search token remaining, ... place Izglik etc

The problem is, when I pick token with monster I have to reveal it, but trigger condition is explicitly connected to heroes revealing token. So do I have to shuffle it with the others?

If not do heroes still need to "Reveal" it by themselfs? What if my minions reveal it while it is last search token on the map, do I have to place Izglik and can I still grab it or I have to leave it in place?

This interaction blows my mind... :o

2) In this quest overgrowth cannot be removed, what if I place my minions like shown at the picture below (red dots). Does it prevents heroes from entering that room? What if I crowd that room entirely? It seems stupid, but looks like they wont be able to enter it and harm monsters in any way

Thank you

1) I think this is a good question for FFG. However, if I had to guess, it sounds like the instructions on the Petty Theft card try to ensure that the unique search token is not under the monster's base. Therefore, I would think that the token under that monster's base is removed from the pool of search tokens "on the map," meaning you only shuffle the others, and if the unique is revealed as the only search token ON THE MAP, then Izglik would appear. What I can say for certain is that you revealing a token is not the same trigger as the heroes revealing a token.

2) If you read the setup rules (or it may be in special rules) I believe the instructions tell you to only set up 2 of the pictured overgrowth, OL choice. It is for exactly this reason, as yes, it would prevent that.

1) Yes it looks like token on the monster base are "not on the map"

So if I reveal token while it is not last one, I leave it in place for heroes to reveal

And if I reveal it while it is last one then I place Izglik because there is no "if heroes" in that condition

2) Thanks, overlooked that part

Ohh now I see. You are wondering about what to do if YOU reveal the final unique token. That one is tricky. I think it should probably be the heroes who have to reveal that one, too.

As an OL knowing it is the unique token before you flip (if last one,) I would recommend NOT summoning izglik if you indeed can. It does not really benefit you to bring him out early. Mash on the heroes for another turn to soften them up.

That is strange because on Petty Theft it is written to reveal token, and in map rules there is no "if heroes reveal" condition regarding this one. So one can assume that actual reveal should happen, I dunno. If I reveal token can it be revealed again by heroes? Thank you for clearing things up a bit, it is really nice to have some feedback

It all depends on situation, in some cases it can be benefical to place Izglik during you turn.

Let me explain my situation, previous quest we played was gathering foretold, heroes got 75 gold from traveling phase (lucky). I used petty theft in encounter one and made them to choose - rather they hunt search token or try to achieve victory. They altogether decided to screw quest and hunt for tokens. And just before my last turn they were able to get last token (my mistake, I could have prevented that). In encounter 2 they killed Splig in two strikes (again my bad, I certainly understimated their damage capability), but I still managed to win that quest, and they got only one search token, sadly, it was a treasure card (thanks to treasure hunter). All in all they looted 5 tokens and got: 75 from travel phase + 175 from tokens + 50 from Splig + item worth 75 gold. 300 gold from one quest + treasure, and I was not that bad... Despite the fact that I won, I still feel like I lost much more...

Thats why I think that maybe it can be benefical to summon Izglik much earlier in quest. They will try to gather all tokens and goblin shamans will give me additional damage while goblin archers will run away with loot. In other words I will try to fest on their greed. They will have to finish this quest earlier or to possibly loose it. Also Im going to use kobolds as my open group and wear them down step by step while running in circles from them.

Also if they will summon Izglik on their turn they will be able to kill him on the same turn, Astarra is cruel fast and I cant use web trap on her when she jumps, she will 60% kill him in 2 attacks, and if not, Logan or Alice will. So it can be not bad idea to summon him first, and position him more safely

I afraid that experience I get from winning quests will never make up for that enormous loot capabilities, and if I will loose even a single quest I wont be able to get back into the game...

Isee. I do indeed think in this case reveal just means "look at it publicly." That's just a guess. In this particular quest, it may not say "when the heroes reveal the unique search token, do this," but there are quests where it is critical to the hero objective that THEY reveal the unique search token (Cardinal's plight encounter 1 is an example, I think.) It makes no sense whatsoever that you could prevent this with a plot card. Therefore, I must conclude that heroes can indeed "reveal" the token you already revealed.

Well, i tend to agree with you. So when I reveal token with Petty Theft, nothing should happen at all. Monster can actually reveal tokens only when it is explicitly stated that they can, like in Reclamation encounter 2.

Then I'll steal all the tokens leaving them only unique one. And then:

1) If they will decide to hunt for tokens, time will play for me - I will mass cards, kobolds and wear them down bit by bit, and even possibly win. Even if I loose I will make good transition in encounter 2 (given i wont perform poorly).

2) If they will go for izglik, then ok. i will try to safe him but even if the will kill him, they skip on 3 search cards and I can stil make it in encounter 2

sounds like a hard choice for heroes, this is always good. They tend to make mistakes in such situation, jumping from one strategy to another without being sure of what to do

Thank you for the input :)

If you have any tips and experience considering this quest I will be gratefull
