A lot of gear, vehicles...

By Yepesnopes, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hi everybody

With the big amount of supplements this line has, it is becoming quite "annoying" and difficult to access to all the gear, vehicles, star-ships, alien species and so on available. I find myself often in the situation where I am sure I have seen a certain piece of equipment, and then it takes ages for me to find its stats in one of the books.

Do you find yourself in a similar situation?

I think it would be nice to have a database of all the options available for PCs and GMs. May be in the future FFG releases supplement books containing this, but it will be a pain to pay for something we already have.

Cheers

Hi,

I know your pain and I did create a set of sheets with all of the gear and ships from all the books and which books they are from. The gear has general stats but not pics or special fluff info.

Unfortunately I am new to these forums and cant see how I add attachments to the "my media" file or my profile yet.

As soon as I can, I will see if I can get them up for you to see.

You'll find a fairly good list of all the stuff at http://swrpg.viluppo.net/

The problem with putting an index into a supplement is that it becomes outdated the first time you release new material after the index.

Sadly, the index has started to fall behind.

OggDude's character generator is probably your best bet. A very comprehensive list of everything put out so far.

Without editing, it gives you a book and page number. With editing, you have as much of a description as you want/need.

I was aware of these two, which are great works. But you know, I am very old school, I would like to have it in paper... A pdf which gets updated and we could print will be great for me :P

Nothing is stopping you from making something like this yourself..

They did a components list for WH, I'm sure they could do the same for Star Wars as it's a similar idea.

This is pretty much what I do. I have a spread sheet of all weapons, armor, and species. It's mostly up-to-date with other equipment, obligations, and motivations, but I'm still missing vehicles and duty.

How extensive do you list stuff? Do you list all stats, or just names ad page numbers?

Everything mechanical.

Why not just write the page # and supplement abbreviation next to the item? Seems that would be easiest...you're already on the page to copy stats, include page #.

I have a couple of spreadsheets too. One for species and one that cross-references all the careers and specializations with the skills they get (broken by by game line).

Of course there is! It is called available free time! ;)

How do you upload an attachment onto the forums for someone to see. The profile seems to have an option for it, but no way to do it?

I think I can provide what the OP wants.

The best way to implement something like this is a small team/staff (less than ten total), one of which is the coordinator, and the others take the books, and one by one, enter references into a spreadsheet (or database, if you're so inclined).

Just keep a standard format. Something like: Entry name, General Type, Specific Type, Source, Abbreviation (if applicable), Page

So, for example (and totally made up):

Clawdite, Species, n/a, Coruscant Sourcebook, CS, 108

Skipray Blastboat, Starship, Space Transport, Thrawn Trilogy Sourcebook, TTSB, 215

Max Rebo, Character, n/a, Lords of Nal Hutta, LoNH, 87

Luxan Enforcer, Weapon, Blaster Pistol, Dangerous Covenants, DC, 121

HK-47 Droid [stock], Equipment, Droid, Knights of the Old Republic Sourcebook, KoTORSB, 116

HK-47 [Character], Character, Droid, Knights of the Old Republic Sourcebook, KoTORSB, 118

You then get all of these together in a single excel sheet or searchable database, and release updates as more books get added.

Could FFG do this? Absolutely. Can you do it yourself just as easily and thus have it more open to modification, improvement, and timely updates while leaving the manpower at FFG free to get your next book on the boat faster? Yep.

You can print the list from your browser. It's about six pages.

Which is basically what OggDude does — he has his XML data file format, and various people send him updated information. Sometimes entire datasets, sometimes just individual items.

I've put every piece of gear, weapon, ship, vehicle, armor... everything... into excel spreadsheets for myself and my group. I keep them updated with every new book that comes out. I include mechanic stats, notes, source, everything relevant. I print them out so the players have them to peruse if they go to the marketplace on a shopping trip.

If anyone likes, I can put them in a dropbox or something for everyone's/anyone's use.

Does that link work? (Hopefully I fixed it.)

It apparently does not.
