Heading to Worlds

By PLR, in X-Wing

Hello Everyone,

Hope this is an ok place to post this.

Me and my son are heading to Worlds this year, first time.
I'm wondering what to expect from the facility and local area?

We are staying about 10 minutes walk from the location and won't have wheels. What is there to eat/do around within walking distance?

Any other thoughts, tips and local knowledge would be appreciated.

Thanks, and looking forward to meeting some of you at the event.

There's a big mall and a ton of places to eat within walking distance.

There's also a restaurant inside the FFG Games Center. At least there was when I went last year.

There's also that. Great Indian place about a block away, as well as Thai, plus the mall.

Awesome, thanks everyone. Really looking forward to this event and meeting everyone.

Thank Toqtamish for that pamphlet. Where did you find it? I was looking for information on Worlds everywhere but couldn't find that useful sheet.

In the World Championships section of the site.

The FFG event center is one of my LGS's, not really local about an hour away but I've been there a number of times.

That's the old building. The address is correct but the picture is of the old building. The entrance now is actually on the side facing the parking lot. It's on the other side of the FFG offices in fact.

There's pretty good public transport in the area and plenty of places to eat. There's also a walmart about 2 blocks away if you need anything from a big store.

The Event Center itself is one of the nicest games stores I've ever been too. They have a kitchen, they also serve coffee, soda, beer and wine. The game floor is super open and well lit, and the air is kept pretty clean if you know what I mean. ;)

At Regionals they used the large room, and had 80+ there, but I never noticed any foul odors.

Anybody know the worlds tournament size as in person?

I know thye increased to max that was allowed by the fird dept, but i dont know the actual number

We will find out next Wednesday.

I know it's less convenient but I would recommend attendees consider Airbnb and getting a rental car or using services like Lyft and Uber instead of staying right next to the FFGC. Minneapolis is a great town with lots of fantastic dining options, pretty neighborhoods, and outdoor entertainment. If you stay in Roseville you'll just see generic strip malls and eat at corporate chain restaurants.

Oh, and thanks to El Nino, we're experiencing record warmth here in Minneapolis so you can go for a run around one of the urban lakes, take a hike along the Mississippi, or rent a bike and check out the trails that crisscross the city.

I'll second that. There's a ton of truly wonderful scenery to see in the parks, rivers or if you get outside of the metro area. If you at all have time to see some of it I can't recommend it highly enough.

If the weather is bad, there's a number of other indoor things you can do as well, the Science Museum is a ton of fun that or the Minnesota History Center.
