XX-9 vs contain

By stev, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Just wondering if contain works against xx-9 two face up critical. is that considered one of the special ones that you cannot contain. Thank you in advance!

Contain only works on the Standard Critical Effect. XX-9 is a special critical effect triggered from a card so Contain does not work against it.

It only works on the default critical effect, so no.

Critical effects from cards bypass it

A bit off topic, but is Contain really all that useful?

It's defiantly nice to be able to ignore a face up card, but so many criticals are used to trigger card effects there's probably a fair chance it can't be used.

No, it's useless, please discard it the first chance you get.

Love,

Maj. Rhymer

It's pretty good actually: pick me as your officer and I'll show you how to make an ISD dance.

Love,

Capt. Needa

It's better than not having it at all.

But it is probably the worst of the defense tokens.

It actually helps a lot. In the Objective Precision Strike, you can negate your opponent from getting a victory token.

If it came from a standard critical effect. You can still gain VTs from flipping up cards, from XX9s, from APTs, from Dodonna's Pride...

Some of the critical effects on the cards can be game changing and not in a good way. While playing at home ask your opponent if you can look at the cards that get "Contained" and verify for yourself what may have happened.

That said it also seems to be a good candidate for Needa or Devistator, there is no requirement that you affect a critical to use the token, so you can get rid of it easily enough for Devistator.

Because Contain is quite situational, and somewhat useless if you never take a critical it will probably end up being seen as the least of the defense tokens. I put it in the same basket as Lando, maybe now and again he'll do something great but 3 games out of 4 he'll do little or nothing and you'll ask what is he good for?

Pitty it doesn't help with driving into rocks.

If your flight crew is too drunk to keep from hitting stationary space rocks, I suspect they shared whatever they got blitzed on with your engineering crew as well
