Worlds question

So now we know there's 8 rounds cut to top 16 and about 300 people coming.

I have no clue how to do this, so you can either explain what math function you use or just give an answer,

What records are making the cut?

This is a handy calculator I've found: http://swisstriangle.net/

You'll need a 7-1 record to guarantee making the cut, and a small number of 6-2 will make it. It depends on exactly how many people exactly there are.

FFG took down the link, and they haven't made a news article. So technically don't know for sure that it will be 8 rounds.

However, if there are 8 rounds, with 300 players, and 6 byes round 1, then after round 8 it will look very close* to this:

0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
2 9 32 66 80 67 33 9 2

* this assumes that when unequal players are paired, (i.e. 0-1 vs 1-0), the player with the stronger record always wins.

Top 16 gets in, so 7-1 makes the cut even with one loss and up to two modified wins (31 points, which is more than 30 points from the 6-2's). A couple of 6-2's will probably get in with spectacular MoV and full wins.

Just for kicks, if there are 350 players:

0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

2 10 39 75 96 77 38 11 2

I think we are looking at a lot more than six byes. There were at least eight last year, and those are just the ones that I met.

With 300 players, you would need to have 21 first round byes before you would have more than 11 players go 7-1 or better.

Thank you for offsetting my laziness. I won't have to work that out on an airline napkin on my way to Minnesota this year.
