This is amazing in my opinion! I am so applying.
FFG's Flight Crew: Let's build the Armada community
Applied.
Applied the second I saw it.
Meanwhile, in North America...
Meanwhile, in North America...
Oregon what? I applied.
Hmmmm... Tempting....
I will have to fill out the application later

I believe he means it Sarcastically, in that it may only be OPEN to those in North America, whereas he, is not.
Applied!
I already evangelize and teach Armada among other games, why not do it for a few bucks?

I asked and I was told that for now it will be just North America. So I propose that us North Americans blow this out of the water so that they expand it to other countries. The goal is to get this to Australia!
Unfortunately, I am rather pessimistic and say that its unlikely to happen, regardless of Success...
Mostly due to independant contractor laws and firms not having an actual presence outside of North America (where Canada and the US do have treaties/laws in place to allow it)
While FFG continues to have distributors doing the work in other areas of sales rather than doing themselves (which, let's face it, was once upon a time, more of a GW thing to do) then they simply do not have the legal framework to allow it to happen.
Indeed.

You are probably right. Even across into Canada I'm not sure how they plan to structure it. I'm incorporated as I currently work as a contractor but I don't see people paying $200-500 to get incorporated for something like this.
I'll sign up if they expand it to UK/Europe. Someone wake me up when that happens.
As for the legalities of such a scheme outside North America, I'm guessing it would be a case of agreeing with the individual distributors that the distributors would be taking on these new employees for occassional work, or possibly as subcontractors. I suspect that the actual terms would differ from country to country due to differences in employment law, and that in itself would be offputting to FFG, who I'm guessing would want to present Flight Crew as a united program with everyone being treated the same rather than everyone being treated differently depending on their country of residence.

Yup applied! I tend to do so much already with my channel it would just feel natural to make it official.
I applied also. I play half the games on the application list regularly (counting all LCGs as one and all RPGs as one). I have a set work schedule so I know when I am available. And I have experience with several game stores in my metro area already.
If I played more than X Wing and Armada, I'd apply. But I don't. But kudos to those who do.

I think they are looking for all kinds of people. If you play less games, I don't necessarily think it means you are less likely to get a position, but it would mean you are less likely to get jobs to demo as your spectrum is more focused. In other words, you will be part of the network but a majority of the jobs will be for games you don't play so you won't get as much work.
Or 90% of the demos will be X-Wing! LOL.
Edited by rowdyoctopusThere is little appetite for FFG stuff locally outside of X Wing it seems. Probably just the kind of area they'd like to grow. Haha

Hm, I don't know. While it's always seen as an awesome thing to make your hobby your work, it also makes what you thought of as a hobby something you will think of as work. Furthermore, I imagine that it's going to be quite poorly paid, and you're going to have to learn (and invest in) a large range of FFG games; not just the ones you like.
But, I guess, if you have nothing else going on in your life, you can do what you do anyway, and wear a flight crew medal.

I don't know why the legalities would be a problem, or couldn't be facilitated by FFG's European parent company, Asmodée. The whole point of the merger was so that both could expand their activities across the Atlantic (sorry aussies). Sure, the labor laws are going to be a bit different, but that's not something that a bit of extra money and lawyers can't fix.
The question is if the employees/contractors are going to be worth it. I'm sure the North American experience will tell if it's a worthwhile advertising initiative.
If you do something you love, you will never work a day in your life.
