Stripping Paint

By Rocmistro, in Star Wars: Armada

I've decided I don't like my green Guppy, and I want to repaint it. Does anyone know a good paint remove that won't ruin my beloved model?

The Original FFG paint jobs are *very* difficult to get rid of. I experimented with many years with the paint on Mage Knight figures to no avail, to try to remove what appears to be a latex based paint.

However, if its something just painted over the top of that - Simple Green (which goes by a variety of names) will take off added enamel paints without damaging the original paint job.

The good news is, that even if its just an original paint job, the surface details are still usually very pronounced, and a decent scrub to remove finger oils and such, followed by a light prime with your favourite primer spray, is enough to get it workable.

Thanks, Dras.

Yeah, mostly I need to get rid of *my* paint, which pooled up in ways I don't like. So I'll give that a shot, then I'll give it just a dusting of primer and I should be back to a clean slate.

Or purple power works also. Messed up my wash. And a quick soak toom the wash off without touching the paint. However the paint model needed a long soak. However it doesn't seem to remove the primer (army painter)

90% isopropyl has done the job for me, and won't hurt the plastic.

Simple green. I think I've painted the equivalent of 15 neb-b's when I owned just the core set.

Almost settled on the scheme now ^_^.

Yup, I use an isopropyl bath in a snap-lid Tupperware I stole from my wife. Let it sit for 15 minutes or so, followed with a wipe-down with a rag. If you want it really clean, a toothbrush works well to really get it scrubbed down. Not difficult at all.

I use Simple Green. Works better in just a 20 min soak, than anything else I have ever tried.

The struggle is real.

I keep eyeballing my star destroyers like... did I go too dark with that blue?

The alternative evil: buy more ships.

5 neb-b's and counting...

And then, the problem becomes "ah man, i like this scheme better. Let's redo all of them this way."
