OK, I'm really bad at writing these but since I ran the thing I should probably post one.....
The attendence was overwhelming this year, with an impressive FIVE different teams representing a total of three different shops at the event! This was an improvement of over 100% on the UFS attendence at Game 09 last year and I feel that if we can continue this trend, world domination need no longer be a mere dream
The teams were as below:
Team M
(Didn't write which shop they represented - I'll go ahead and say that they represented Scott who has the power of an entire shop in one man
)
Scott - Nina Williams
Kev - Zhao Daiyu
Phil - Hilde
Comment: Two very unusual decks and unique choices on this team, whilst Hilde also made a surprise appearance
Team Antics (Antics, Plymouth)
Dave - Jin
Dave N - Hilde
Jack - King
Comment: Two very strong characters here, unusually there was a second Hilde on this team as well!
Team Fruit F*cker (Antics, Plymouth)
Dan - Hilde
Phil - Jin
Jason - Astrid
Players from three different shops were on this team. Hilde was also on the team, but she's not very good. Really
Team Patriot (Patriot Games, Sheffield)
Ross - Lu Chen
Justin - Astrid
Edie - Omar
Comment: We narrowly avoided having a Hilde on our team when Matt decided to play L5R instead. Lucky, since she's clearly bad
Path of the Master Baiter (Patriot Games, Sheffield)
Michael - Zi Mei
Lloyd - Ivy
Nathan - Siegfried
Comment: Three very aggressive decks here, which is probably why I didn't see a Hilde on the team
Character Breakdown :
Hilde (3) (But it's an honorary 4 - see above)
Jin (2)
Astrid (2)
Nina (1)
Zhao Daiyu (1)
King (1)
Lu Chen (1)
Omar (1)
Ivy (1)
Zi Mei (1)
Siegfried (1)
We started the tournament after a 30 minute delay while we waited for a team member who shall remain anonymous to find the venue and actually build a deck (you know who you are)
Round One was as follows:
Team Patriot vs Team Fruit F*cker - After an extremely hard fought round Patriot won with one win to two draws.
Path of the Master Baiter vs Team Antics - Although they had a good early start, Path faltered as the round went on, earning Antics a 2-1 win.
Team M - Bye
Round Two :
Team Patriot vs Path of the Master Baiter - Although all three rounds were close, Patriot wrenched away a 3-0 victory.
Team M vs Team Antics - Two of the strongest teams in the UK played off hers, with Antics earning a well-deserved 2-1 win.
Team Fruit F*cker - Bye
Round Three :
Path of the Master Baiter vs Team M - After taking a previous round loss, Team M swept to victory with a 2-1 win.
Team Fruit F*cker vs Team Antics - Both of the Antics Teams played off, surprisingly the result was an Antics win
Team Antics won 2-1.
Team Patriot - Bye
Round Four :
Team M vs Team Fruit F*cker - After a long round, when time was called Team Fruit F*cker won with two wins to a draw.
Team Patriot vs Team Antics - Probably the hardest fought round of the tournament - after time was called Patriot won the round with 2 wins one loss.
Path of the Master Baiter - Bye
Round Five :
Team Patriot vs Team M - Although all of Team M's decks posed a difficult challenge, when time was called Team Patriot own the round with two wins to a draw.
Team Fruit F*cker vs Path of the Master Baiter - After an unlucky day for Path, they narrowly missed a win when Fruit F*cker took a 2-1 victory.
Team Antics - Bye
So after a five round tournament Team Patriot retained the previous year's title. I am aware that there are issues with whether we will actually get a card after a nationals with only 15 players and also issues with a particular ruling made at the event which has led to later complaints. Please be assured that there will be no action taken regarding the card until I have worked with Steve and with FFG to resolve this, and that I believe that all rulings I made were unbiased and to the best of my ability. I am also discussing some ideas I have for an alternative to a shop asset
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the all of the teams and especially the individual players who took the time to make the long journey to the event, the furthest travelled players were from as far away as Helston and Plymouth! Also I would like to thank all players for their patience during the various delays during the course of the event.
Now that Sheffield has followed the rest of the UK, I'm off to start building Legacy decks
