Well, pseudo Sullust!

My list was straightforward:

straightforward:
Assault Frigate Mk II B: Garm Bel Iblis, Gunnery Teams, Advanced Projectors.
Assault Frigate Mk II B: Gunnery Teams, Advanced Projectors, Enhanced Armament
Assault Frigate Mk II B: Gunnery Teams, Advanced Projectors, Enhanced Armament

Wow ... Guppies vs Guppies all the time.

In the 2nd game you just stopped your ships and let the rounds pass?

How dare you didn't step into the trap. I probably would do the same in the given situation.

The more important effect of that 5-5 is it meant I played Sean instead of you :P

It's still weird though, since you won with technically by the rules a 2-1, Sean placed second with 3-0, I placed third with 1-2. Just can't wrap my head around that

It boils down to, ironically, Winning isn't Everything.

It boils down to, ironically, Winning isn't Everything.

I'm rather partial to it is in a competitive environment such as a tournament where the point is who's the best at their respective list. Especially if you paid to play, it's rather counter intuitive to say the opposite in competitions.

Perhaps I should clarify then...

The idea behind the Scoring system isn't so much that Winning isn't Everything...

Its more like...

Winning at All Costs isn't Everything...

Phyrric Victories are not so much Wins as far as it is concerned... Its a measure of how well you play, so even someone on the losing side who played well is rewarded... But greater rewards are won by outplaying your opponent by a wider margin...

Right, but this isn't a campaign or sustained battle. They're 3 individual skirmishes with a defined objective, that are separate from each other and unrelated with exception of the matchups. And I went 5-5 twice, with a losing MOV of 5 and 12, through pitched battles. It felt weird to post a better score than one of them, and since I missed my 10-0 by 10 points game one, I almost took second when it was pretty well proven 2nd and 4th were better, and 1st would've creamed me. (I ran 3 nebs and a corvette, and got 3 carrier fights which let me isolate and ram, something I can't do in a 3 ship fight)

And it's not to say Sean played wrong, he took 3 wins, played tactically and was the Victor all the games. Yet that's not reflected by the standings which is what bothers me.

I went 3-0 and still came in third. Its a real awkward feeling walking away from that tournament.

Even with that said, still wouldn't have changed a thing.

Yeah it's a bit weird, but it also shouldn't be a surprise. The Armada rules favor points over wins. Typically they go hand in hand, but you can go 2-1 as long as your wins were big and your losses light. Is that better than someone who won 3 games by the skin of his teeth? I have no idea! It just is what it is.

I don't have a strong opinion one way or another (surprise!), but it's not the first time we've had this conversation. In the Flames Of War world it's gone back and forth for a decade. I play tournaments where the organizers make it wins first then points, and plenty of tournaments where the opposite is true. At the end of the day, I'm happy to play both games: The game on the table, and the big game going on in the store.

Sean is an excellent player, and I think he and I are 2 and 2 now. Always look forward to playing him!

It seems that Minefields is the only mission where you can create kind of a stalemate situation ...

You did a good job in not flying right through the mines. Why should you? You were not responsible for this mess of a mine field. lol

Interesting list btw.

Full Guppy power.

I'd like to battle you with my 3 x VSDs ^^

I think that we should look at it more as a risk-reward situation in the case of the second game. I put little risk into trying to win by trying to set a fairly obvious trap and hope that he would play into it and it showed through the point system. If you look at the picture he posted of the initial setup I could have easily set up directly in front of him and had a riskier head to head brawl that could have swung more drastically in either one of our way. Of course the third game I had completely negates this because we both received 5 despite the losses we both had.

Yeah, that's what I love about it though! You made a good call at setup. I made a good call tactically. Sure, it resulted in no pew pews, but I think it's at least interesting :)
