Like I said, 'canon' only matters to hard core fans.
The topic asks do FFG products become canon? Unless they appear on film, then no. But does it make a difference? Or even matter? Does having 'canon' status change anything?
The products don't have to appear on film to be canon.
Do FFG products become canon!
You seem to have confused me with someone who gives a rat's behind.

And yet your here proclaiming what is and isn't canon. Obviously you do care about what is and isn't canon.
You're obviously missing my point. I don't care about it because it doesn't change a damned thing within this game. Or even outside the game. We have ships in the game that are considered officially canon and then others that aren't. Does that change their popularity within the game. I don't think so. I have ships from all three factions and I'll play any of them in a list. I don't favour canon over non-canon, because it makes no difference whatsoever.
So Disney changed canon stuff to 'legend' status, or secondary canon, or tertiary canon, or distant cousin to canon, or whatever. Whoopee. It doesn't affect me in the slightest. It doesn't affect the game in the slightest. Like I said earlier, it's only the hard-core fans that really care about it, and I don't fall into that category. I'm a fan of the movies and I've read a couple of novels. I'm not really falling into the "hard-core fan" category by a long shot. And nor will I ever claim to be. But I'm an avid gamer and I love this game for it's simplicity and complexity.
Does canon status matter? Not to me.
OK sirs, we are getting off topic here.
I think the original question has been resolved. No, FFG products do not become canon.
There are some interesting points though which have opened a train of thought that I thought might be fun to discuss. That is, what is your personal canon?
For me .. it is the OT. Plain and simple. I have read more than my fair share of novels, comics and played my lot of SW games. Every shirt (with exception to my Lego ones) is SW. I have a tonne of SW gear in my home and an amazing collection of 1977-1985 SW action figures. I just can't behind a lot of what I see in the EU (canon or otherwise). I will however accept Stackpole's X-Wing series and the X-Wing / TIE fighter games.
For me, the above fits my personal canon. It is how the SW universe is shaped in my mind.
Edited by ConandoodleYou're obviously missing my point.
No, he is incapable of getting anyones point other than his own when it comes to canon. Debating canon with BKL is a lot like trying to knock down a brick wall with your forehead.
All you really accomplish is getting a headache.
And as has been stated, FFG stuff isn't canon unless something is in a canon source as well.
I will say that the whole idea of personal canon is a bit of a oxymoron. The whole point of canon is those things that are agreed upon by people in authority, and so everyone accepts it as being accurate.
I fell into the temptation, and clicked the white bars.
His nonsensical stance makes a little bit more sense now. Even if it is categorically wrong and completely nonsensical.
"Canon" does not mean LFL (or Fox) doesn't own the trademarks. Even though they made all the old EU non-canon, they still own all the characters et all. So, even in a non-canon product, approval from LFL would be needed. I doubt he will ever grasp this concept, so I heartily suggest the ignore list and move on.

No I didn't, first you say canon only matters to the individual, then you say that FFG products are non-canon. I don't really what you do with your personal canon... But you are saying FFG products are non-canon, theirs nothing that backs that claim up. Your proclamation effects any VS debate that may start here our on other websites.

I didn't see this "source" anywhere. If your talking about wookieepedia I will point out that they came to their conclusion that FFG products are non-canon just because they reference Legends. Since thats the case everything new is also non-canon since they reference legends.

Yup sure nosensical, I am only following what LFL has said about the legends stories. I notice you brought up Fox, you want to bring Alien/ AvP / Prometheus/ Predator canon wars into this to, BE MY GUEST. Youll just whine about the fact they are still all canon, via their outline in their movie sets about canon, article interviews with ACM creators, as well as Isolation and the freaking articles about the new Alien and AvP and Prometheus and Predator comics by dark hourse.
Your assertions are incorrect, that SW non-canon products need approval from LFL to be created, we see they don't do this with the only verifiable non-canon SW products, which is the Old Republic dlc.
If you're going to quote me, try getting it right. I said SOME were officially canon and SOME were not.
And since when do I have to provide a source for my claims? This is just a forum, not the supreme court!
And if you want an example of an FFG product that's NOT canon, look at the Imperial Raider. Designed in-house and not appeared in film, TV or literature. It couldn't be
more
non-canon.
I think there are numerous quotes from the RPG designers that their stuff isn't canon.
And if you want an example of an FFG product that's NOT canon, look at the Imperial Raider.
Yeah FFG has been quite clear that the Raider is not canon, I'm sure they'd love to see it in Rebels or a movie or something. But right now the Raider is not canon.
But most of us understand that... Anyone who doesn't is quite honestly not worth your time. Because people like that aren't capable of changing their misguided and sometimes borderline deranged opinions on the matter.
All they'll do is yell the same things over and over again, then make up stuff as proof, and accuse people of outrageous things to deflect their lack of real evidence.
I mean I'm not sure that BKL even plays X-Wing any more. I haven't seen him post to a single thread that isn't about canon/lore in months if not longer... He simply isn't worth the effort.
