Fly Casual, page 9, under the heading "smuggling and the rebel alliance" the sentence reads: "For example, after joining the Rebellion, Chewbacca secured the entire Claatuvac Guild astrogation database for the Alliance.". Not much to go on but it implies they are a group with some knowledge of the hyperplanes, perhaps traders or explorers.

Mentions have been made before of a guild of Wookie astrogators with secret hyperlanes and jump information. I don't know if they had a name given prior to the FC mention above.

That's the direction, I remember exactly that... but its not in Fly Casual, it was before it came out I am sure.
