So I've got too used to going after pancakes et al and need to adjust my mindset somewhat.
hopefully first time I run into this type of list one of the enemy aces is Carnor. Cleans up my priorities nicely as I hate that guy. ![]()

I've not had the pleasure of facing a Palpmobile yet. Atm I tend to fly VI Vader with a 4-5 tie mini swarm. Means I have plenty of blockers and an ace that should move after the opponents aces.
I see people saying take an ace down early. I see the logic in doing so while there are plenty of guns in play but my instinct would be to actually look for a way to focus down the shuttle first. Removing the emperor dice modification would make it easier to push through damage on a turtled Fel for example and with a lot of dice against low agility, I'd fancy my chances of removing it quickly.
Hearing the plan should be take an ace first, what trap am I maybe falling into here? Is it just that the aces on the Palpmobile list will end up at range one on my mini swarms tail?
If you go after the palpmobile, you'll find the aces on your tail hitting very hard as your opponent won't need to consider saving Palpatine's reroll for defense.
My bosskinator+swarm will almost always shoot Palp first unless I get an R2 opportunity to double-stress an ace.
I think the prime target depends on your own list. With 4-5 TIES + Vader, the shuttle is a quick drop. I'd probably do the same thing. With lower firepower lists, the shuttle might take too much time to kill. That's where the trap is, I think.
2 Imperial Ace lists will always be great. The flexibility you get with those lists makes beating ANY list possible.
The Palpmobile adds that layer of guarantee that lets you be a little more aggressive, or a pump a little more damage through when you need it.
I was against the list idea at first, as Shuttles were having a rough go at competing against fast Turrets. It was way too easy to make that Shuttle feel worthless. Now that you can have one be useful without being in arc, I'm a big fan.
I wouldn't call it "the new meta". But it WILL be a contending list.
Edited by phild0Ignore the aces. Burn the shuttle down as fast as you can.
The aces take too many rounds with their high evade dice and maneuverability. Yes you will take damage from them while you take down the shuttle and may lose a ship, but without taking a list designed for hard countering just this squad it is the most logical attack. Remove the Emperor's influence and the aces have lost one of their evade buffs.
Of course if one of them happens to land on a rock in front of you...

Yeah, if you're not putting 12+ dice down you probably want to hit the aces first- hopefully you're not relying on them flubbing a roll to hit them, because with Z-95s they'll palp away a hit and you're not going to do very much against a toked up Soontir with Palpatine help.
Super Dash probably wants to shoot the aces first, though, for example.
Kill the aces as hard as possible, don't fall for the shuttle bait
Kill the aces as hard as possible, don't fall for the shuttle bait
specifically, Vader
Vader will have you now
but he can't take thrusters
I just wanna say how happy I am that my term "The Palpmobile" has been added to the X-wing lexicon. In addition, all my predictions of 2-ace+Palp lists doing well have come true. I honestly think its the best thing to happen to X-wing in a while because its a powerful list that still requires skill and finesse to use properly, as well as being thematic.
It depends on your list, but I've had better luck killing the shuttle first. Trying to drop AT/SD Fel with Palpatine up is just nonsense. Always gun hard for the aces, but if they have a turn or two where you won't get shots wipe that shuttle out. You'll have an easier time, especially if it has ion projector.
Edited by TasteTheRainbowI think the biggest weakness of the list is the low firepower. You generally don't use the shuttle's attack very often until the late game, and while Soontir and Vader are both solid attackers, the list lacks punch. In the six rounds with the list at HOTH, I went to time more often than not (I don't remember the exact details, but I think I only had two games end in tabling, a Dash/Corran list and a 2x ORS/Horton list.) The flip side is that the list protects its points very well; both Vader and Soontir are hard to bring down and the shuttle is hard to engage without leaving Soontir and Vader to focus completely on attack.

Oddly enough, I get more kills with the Palpmobile than with any ace since he shoots last.
Yup Vader+Soonir+Palpbus won over 4x SnV TLT in our Nationals (30 Players)... there were two TLT lists in the Top four, one was a Rebel one the other was SnV.

You better at least have a plan for it. I do.
And those top 3 were Dustin Poskochil, David Pontier (piqsid), and myself, three guys that have been playing since 2012. So it's not just the squad, although it is a tough one to beat.
I played piqsid? Cool! I loved his movement guides back in the day.

that and, despite how cool we all think soontir is, the Shuttle and the Interceptor hit exactly as hard
only Vader or Whisper will exceed its potential damage output.
I said this in another thread. But it's not palp so much as that imps currently have three ps9 aces who are all super powerful and all can be outfitted well for mid 30 point price range.
Vader/Soontir/??? who is the third ps9?
Not bashing, just think I'm missing someone.

This is simply an obvious combination of very powerful cards. Of course it's good.
Edited by algncAnd there is the second half. Dismissing skill in a squad's success. Knowing when to use Palpatine is indeed a skill.

In my local Meta the term "Palpatank" has also become a thing, describing Kenkirk + Palpatine + Isard + etc. I'm hoping that term catches on and spreads too. ![]()

Maybe referring to VI Whisper as well... one could also put Swarm tact on Vader to PS9 shoot on Shuttle but that would restrict him to being within range 1 of the shuttle instead of being free to flank etc.,

As are all of the skills involved in correctly flying all three of the ships correctly. Palpatine only changes one die; that's not enough to escape being punished for bad flying.

Whisper comes practically glued to V.I
Getting auto hits and adjusting dice to whatever face you want is skill and finesse now?I just wanna say how happy I am that my term "The Palpmobile" has been added to the X-wing lexicon. Flying 2 squishy action-dependent arc-dodging ships along with a ship that flies like a brick and spends most of the game hiding does indeed take finesse. Certainly more than fat turrets or TLTx4(not to beat that dead horse).

Except VI Whisper doesn't really fit nicely in a list with the Emp.
Whisper is for 2-ship lists since you really want the FCS/VI/ACD package to maintain pressure.
Palp lists typically run Vader/Fel/Jax. Those are the three aces that make the list work. I took the list to my last tourney and did pretty good, and I had Vader/Fel. I would have felt even better in most matchups if I had Jax.
