Little clarification on the Errata paragraph on Demolisher

By Cuthawolf, in Star Wars: Armada

So the new errata says "If Demolisher is equipped with Engine Techs, it can perform one of its attacks after it executes the maneuver granted by Engine Techs."

Does this mean is can never perform one attack between its regular move and the Engine Techs move? I've always assumed the effects can resolve in whichever order the Imperial player chooses, and let them do it that way.

This was answered through an email and through the use of the word "can".

Demolisher can make an attack at any point directly after its move. This means it can Move shoot move, move move shoot, or just move shoot

Edited by Lyraeus

Or even shoot / shoot / move / move if you're feeling saucy.

It can also shoot shoot move, just like everything else. But it cannot move (standard move) shoot, move (ET), shoot. Just to be thorough. :)

I had no idea it was a source of confusion, and hasn't come up in any of my games, but nice to see it in an official errata.

Edit: half-ninja'd by Biggs. He just comes in too fast! ;)

As a clarification. I think the key word on Engine Techs is "After you execute a maneuver". So you can only use Engine Tech's ability immediately after making a maneuver.

So you can either:

Attack - Attack - (Maneuver - Engine Tech)

Or

Attack - (Maneuver - Engine Tech) - Attack

Bother Demolisher and Engine Techs state "after you execute a maneuver" so you can stack the ability however you wish

Incorrect.

After you execute one of your attacks as normal, you can:

Attack 2, move, engine tech

Move, attack2, engine tech

Or move, engine tech, attack 2.

Or move, then attack 2 and skip engine techs altogether.

This was expressly clarified by FFG.

After comparing both cards and the Rules, the wording is actually pretty clear:

Demolisher: During your activation you can perform one of your attacks after you execute a maneuver

Engine Techs: After you execute a maneuver, you may exhaust this card to execute a speed 1 maneuver

FAQ: If Demolisher is equipped with Engine Techs, it can perform one of its attacks after it executes the maneuver granted by Engine Techs.

Rules Reference Guide: p.5, Effect Use and Timing:

An “after” effect occurs immediately after the specified event and cannot occur again for that instance of the event.

• If two or more of a player’s effects have the same timing, that player can resolve those effects in any order.

Engine techs overrides the usual limitation of only 1 maneuver execution. So we have two possible opportunities to trigger any "after you execute a maneuver" effects, in any order. One of the effects is the Engine Techs effect itself. So after executing a maneuver, a player can use both effect in the order that they choose. Since the Engine Techs card ALSO counts as executing a maneuver, you can trigger any "after executing a maneuver" effects after that as well.

Demolisher may make ONLY ONE attack after moving, and it must be from a different arc to the attack it makes before moving.

So your activation looks like this:

  1. Attack

THEN

  1. Attack from a different arc then move at it's current speed
  2. Attack from a different arc then move at it's current speed + engine techs

OR

  1. Move at it's current speed.
  2. Move at it's current speed, plus engine techs.
  3. Move at it's current speed, then attack from a different arc.
  4. Move at it's current speed, plus engine techs, then attack from a different arc.
  5. Move at it's current speed, then attack from a different arc, then move using engine techs.

Unless you have Gunnery Teams

And you're not Targeting the same ship from the same arc twice if you do...

Unless you have Gunnery Teams

True. But I covered the basics of the moving and shooting arrangement. It is possible to modify the 'different arc' parts, of course.

I had my golden moment with Demolisher yesterday... at the start of my activation I had a 'most wanted' AFMk2 in my left arc, a Neb-B in my right arc both at short range, and had a focus fire command. I got to roll 10 black dice in a single turn.

Unless you have Gunnery Teams

I can't help but notice that this isn't a very useful thing to say. How old are you? You should be ashamed of yourself.

Where is the errata printed?

I'm not. I stand by my comment.

I would concede though, that arguing about netiquette on a forum about toy spaceships would hardly reflect well on anyone.

Where is the errata printed?

There is a clarification of the effects of Engine Techs on Demolisher in the FAQ:

Where is the errata printed?

You can always find the latest version of the FAQ on the Star Wars Armada product page. Down at the bottom it wil have links to all the printed materials so far, including the Rules Reference, Learn to Play guide, and FAQs. New additions are in pink.

Right, this is exactly the ridiculous, over-the-top hypocrisy that my quotation of you was intended to highlight. You shouldn't feel ashamed for making a useless post - though you did that. You should feel ashamed for the blatant, ridiculous, immediate hypocrisy. I don't expect you to, but you should.

Manners are so hard to properly teach these days.

Yep. Oh well, what can you do?

Yeah, I read his post.

Girls, you're both pretty.

Now how about we either return this to a discussion on game rules or leave the thread be?

Girls, you're both pretty.

Classy sexism is classy.

I can't help but notice that you suggest returning the thread to topic, but you don't actually do that yourself, and simply provide an insult of your own.

What the hell is with hypocrites in this thread?

It was a direct quote from a movie more than a sexist remark. But you're being overly aggressive, which is not helping.
