Flying off the board/bumping and oicunn

By Faeren, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hey Everyone

Was playing a game the other day against oicunn, my opponent flew rather close to the board edge (at an angle where only 2 hard turn would keep him on the board) I parked my soontir Fel in the only spot he could've gone in. So here's my question, as he would be bumping Fel with oicunn would he do the damage still and then be removed OR when the move finishes as he's partly off the board would he just lose the ship without resolving the pilot ability?

I think it would be the latter, without resolving his ability.

(Nice flying, btw.)

It's most definitely the latter. Check the rulebook under "Fleeing the Battlefield".

If a ship is placed outside the play area as a result of executing a maneuver, the ship flees the battlefield and is immediately destroyed. It cannot perform an action or execute a maneuver to move back within the play area.

If it's unable to perform an action to get back on, I would think Oicunn's ability wouldn't happen either, as the ship is immediately destroyed. You've got to be careful when flying those big ships close to the edge, as it can have instantly fatal consequences.

Ive never liked how the rules are stated. Its not really flies off the board. If its final position has any part of its base off the board it is immediately destroyed. I could see the argument for his ability still going off as to get in this state of fleeing the battlefield it first has to finish executing its maneuver which is what triggers his ability.

Ah thanks guys, in the game we just rolled for it as we didn't know so he did kill Fel at the same time

But yeah it does make sense for it not to go off

Ships fleeing are removed after step 2a. Oicinns ability would happen after step 2c

See activation phase in rules reference.
