length of game

By Facepalm2, in Chaos in the Old World

i am looking into getting this game for i am a huge fan of warhammer; it has a deep/rich history/background, it has many races, it also still finds a way to leave a lot up to you to create. i always thought chaos was a cool part of the game so when i read about this game i thought it might be a game worth buying. anyway my question is; how long is an average game? how long does a turn roughly take? Thank you in advance.

I've found 1 and a half to 2 hours depending on experience of players and how much analysis paralysis they suffer

That's sounds about right, last nights game lasted just about 1 and a half hours with three players, as we were all seasoned players, and the game flowed smoothly. The lengthiest game lasted over three and a half hours, but there were two new players, and one of them wanted to absolutely analyse all possible angles...So it really contributes to the game lenght if players think too much. I must confess, that I also have been guilty of overanalysing and driving my fellow gamers to take numerous smoking breaks, while I'm trying to decide whether to play a card or a figure (which can take amazingly long time, despite being a simple task...) ;) Which is absolutely futile, because the tactics in the game change all the time, and you just must adjust your game almost after every move. So i've tried to keep my decicion making time to appr. 30 seconds, and take more straightforward playing style. Which has worked well and is more enjoyable. And it's always fun to analyze the game and made errors AFTERWARDS.

The Space Hulk hourglass (or any other hourglass) is pretty usuable in this game. Keeps the game quick and smooth.

We got some rounds finished in an hour with 3 players.

The funny thing about this game is that when my group and I first started playing, the games were REALLY quick (an hour or less), but as we became more familiar with the cards, board, resources, etc... we began to develop different strategies; strategies that are continuing to evolve, yet making our games run a little longer. We haven't had a game go over 2 hours, but it's really developed into more of a strategy session. "Now why did Nurgle put his piece there when there's no way it could benefit him...?", you start seeing some of that. I love this game!

I have played the game five times, each with 4 players. The first game was the longest, but the game flows really smoothly after the first turn was completed things sped up pretty fast. I Think the last game we played only took about 45 minutes, but if you play more cards than figures it'll take a bit longer, there weren't too many cards played in the last game so I think that sped it up a bit. You can easily have a game or two in the evening without feeling pressed for time, or that it's taking all night!

You will likey find the first game to take very long, as players get used to the multiple scoring phases and figure out how things work and ask each other exactly what the cards do, expect 4-5 hours. After that and the players are know what they are doing, 1.5-2 hours, add an extra 1/2 if a new player is sitting in.

I've not played this of a week or more but each games about 1.5 2 hours but it offen feels much faster as far a turns go it can be any length but around 20mmin for a mid to late game turn feels right I had a lot of fun playing and cant reomend it enght hope this helps.

P.S. I did a review here
