Broken ship pegs?

By Darkcloak, in X-Wing

Happened twice now during pre-game assembly that the little peg attaching the ship to the stand has broken off. Both times on Tie Fighters from the core sets. Kinda seems a little silly that they ought to break off so easily.

Anyone else have this problem and does FFG do anything about it?

I've not found they break easily, quite the opposite.

Yes, I've had some break, but each time it is because someone (usually me) wasn't careful enough.

I suppose you are lucky that they are making replacement ones (in colour and clear :) )

I've only had this problem with k-wings, the part attached to the k-wing itself snapped off into the peg/stand. Simple solution for this however, by yourself a low heat glue gun for around $7. It doesn't warp the miniatures and if your good no glue should be showing after gluing it back on.

Nope no problems. I've backhanded a dead tie off the table while reaching for a die and it just bounced. Stand and all. Stayed together.

Email FFG, they are extremely lenient with replacements. They sent me a whole new A-Wing dial when I straight up admitted I lost the **** thing at a LGS. Now trying to pull the wool that you "lost" your 3P0 and R2D2 Crew cards when you don't own a tantive....well that's a moral dilemma for you to think about.

Moved 7 out of 8 Tie's in my Swarm last week, and then brought my hand down on Dark Curse while waiting for my opponent to move last week. I snapped the piece off of the Tie model that the peg goes into.

A bit of Testor's model glue fixed him right up.

Had it happen to my K-wing. Went to pick it up off the table and must have twisted a bit. The peg snapped off where it joins the model. And it seems poly cement doesn't work to fix it.

Oh...

Reading their thingy it sounds like you have to have a silver tongue, but most legal jargon reads that way. I'll send em an email.

The broken peg isn't such a huge deal. I am a hobbyist after all. Just seemed strange that it would happen to both Ties, one from each set old and new. I have noticed a couple other things too concerning quality. I nearly bought a tfa set that had a pretty mangled T70, but the shower owner had multiple sets so it was all good. My wife's Y-Wing also had what looked like a knife mark on the engine cowl. So it seems like there is some stuff that gets past QC. Not that I'm complaining too hard. I mean hell, $20 doesn't even get you one GW mini so... Its a **** good deal anyways! Lol!

The first Time I fixed with some pins and glue, but I wonder if just some glue will suffice?

Had it happen with a K-Wing and a Z-95. Superglue works fine. I even snipped the peg at an angle to make my Z all swooshy and banking.

Hmmm...

So all 4 Ties from core sets, plus now an Interceptor. All broken in some way. All of them easy fixes for a hobbyist, but strangely not a lot of communication going on though. I can't really say I'm impressed. Its a pretty cheap game, but not so cheap I can just overlook 5 broken ships. Why am I repairing toys again?

Why am I repairing toys again?

Because you're willing to accept that mistakes happen and you love the game? If not then maybe it's not the game for you. I emailed FFG about two years ago asking where I could could buy replacement bases as I'd lost a couple. They sent me an envelope with about a dozen in... And the pegs too. Three months ago the plastic mount on my Firespray splintered compleatly, the only way to fix it would have been to magnetise it. I reluctantly emailed FFG asking if they would be able to supply a spare plastic mount. I got a new Firespray through the post.... And I live in the UK! If you think there is a problem with your ships breaking send them an email and it will highlight the problem. Maybe they've changed production methods slightly. Maybe they've changed their supplier. Maybe they'll look into it and stop it happening in the future.

... At the very least you'll get new replacement parts!

:(

That's disheartening. Maybe there will be goodies in the mail one day...

Oh well. The toy repair comment was for effect I suppose. I mean it's not like any of the fixes were difficult by any means, I am just such a miserly grump I hate to see my money spent on repairs. A tube of super glue, the kraggle, is 1/3 the price of a new ship dag-gummit!

Not trying to be snarky - but are you sure you are handling / installing them properly? That just seems like an inordinate amount of trouble compared to the historical rate of failure.

And agree with everyone else - FFG is generally very cool about replacing bits and bobs. My kid broke off a peg once and I super glued it but it didn't really work out so I emailed them and told them story - they sent me a new base and pegs no fuss no muss.

I don't think anyone here has ever seen the need to have a 'silver tongue' or word the request just right - these folks are gamers just like us - they seem to 'get it' on the whole.

Well no offense but have you read the disclaimer for replacing components? It does indeed seem like a hassle. Though again, all legal jargon reads that way.

Still waiting for a response on the interceptor.

How am I handling them? Well quite gingerly actually, but some of the pegs are a little tight and the ships aren't exactly sturdy. The first broken peg was my wife, the second and third Ties were my bad. One got dropped while on its stand and one was another assembly malfunction. The Int, I grabbed it by the eyeball in thumb and forefinger and pushed it down onto the peg and a wing just went pop! A wiggle and a nudge later and the other wing was off.

I wonder, could it be the distributor? I remember having issues with certain GW suppliers getting crap product. Is there like a quality cap somewhere and distributors can buy defective product and sell it? Maybe it's old stock or something like that? I don't know, but if everyone has good things to say about FFG then I guess I just have to wait it out. The last time I emailed them they did apologize for the delay in correspondence, citing the new wave and upcoming releases as the reason.

And hey, I'm not trying to slag anyone here. It just seems like a bad run of luck and I wanted to know what everyone thought about it. Seems like its just my crap luck and a small company being swamped with lots of work so, I'll just go check my email again.

Still never had it happen to anyone i know in 2 years of playing, wing's we've broken never pegs.

:) none taken - I think I honestly never read any disclaimers and just fired my email off with reckless abandon and hutzpah

Oh, maybe I should try hutzpah? Lol! Maybe a dash of gusto?

That's not kosher.

Oh don't be antipasto!

I am waiting for the colour pegs to be released. I have about 20 pegs to replace.

They sell toothpicks you know...

Magnets.

I find the pegs quite strong, but the fit varies in tightness greatly; my E-Wing is a very tight fit but some of the older TIEs would drop off if turned upside down.

I wish they would sell replacement receivers as this would make creating custom ships much easier!

As demand and production volumes go up, I would not be surprised if quality goes down. Trying to get at more stuff out at the same rate leaves less time for attention to detail and inspection.

i'm missing a couple of pegs and stands, some have some wear and tear. I expect several to break during the coming months.

two days ago I had a hard time trying to get a peg out of a imperial ace interceptor, while others go in and out very smoothly.

I'm glad they'll start selling pegs/stands sets, but they don't come cheap tho. I read something about 8 dollars for 4 small and 1 large stand incl pegs.

On the other hand, high production volumes means lower production costs, meaning it's easier to use better materials and keep it cheap enough to sell at current prices
