I think three TIE's is pushing the definition of mini-swarm to it's limit! In all seriousness you're sort of 'falling between two stools' with this list... Not enough numbers to fly it like a mini-swarm and the Aces aren't that ace for an Aces list. I'd probably run it with "Omega Ace and three Obsidians, but I've never really been a massive fan of Howlrunner in mini-swarms.

I ran Soontir (35) with Howl and 3 black squadron with crackshot at a recent tournament. It was fun, but I missed the numbers of a full swarm. I'm not sure Soontir is quite tough enough a support to go with a mini-swarm. I ended up 2-1 in 4th.

I used to run Soontir, Howlrunner and Academies, but if I were to run it now it would be Obsidians instead.

I like the idea of using "Omega Ace" instead of Mauler, but for me personally I'd rather have the two point initiative bid. If I'm playing in tournaments I want to be able to choose to move after other Soontirs, Whispers and Vaders. As I said before, I'm currently looking at dropping a point from my own list as may of the Soontir lists I run personally come in at 98pts and I don't want the dice to decide initiative. If you're set on "Omega Ace" maybe consider dropping Rebel Captive for Intelligence Agent.

This might be off topic, but doesn't having both Soontir and Whisper put you in an odd spot regarding initiative because Whisper wants to shoot first, but Soontir wants to move last?

I really like Omega Ace and fell like playing him.

Intelligence agent works very well on Whisper to do the decloak action and take advantage of it.

I'm currently running 5 obsidian with VI Vader.

I started with Fel but no imitative bid is dicey. You really can't afford to have an ace moving after you. IMO, you need to go 3 Obsidian, 2 academy for a 2 pt bid or vice versa for 3pt. Does give better blocking against low ps than all obsidian but less guns firing first against TLT spam. Trade off depending on taste.

Think my preference with Fel would be to go with 4 better TIEs.

Standard Fel is standard and does what he does.

Mini swarm of Howlrunner, A black squad with draw their fire and two Obsidians is 94pts leaving a few points for flavour and retain initiative bid for Fel. Maybe go HR and 3x DTF Blacks for 98pts. Gives decent protection to HR so should have excellent firepower early on.

Yes, if you have initiative your PS9 would move before the opponents PS9.

Tournament rules state that the player with the lowest points chooses who has initiative. So with Fel your making an initiative bid (spending 97-98 points usually) hoping to spend less points than the opponent in case of a PS 9 ace on the opponent list. You then force them to have initiative meaning your Fel moves and repositions after their 9 does.

You give up the shoot first benefit but with simultaneous fire it's not too big a deal for Fel.

Oh, for the other question, Not used Omega yet but I think he suits flying with high PS aces rather than being the list ace himself.

Much better for others to strip shields so his crits have higher impact rather than just spalshing shields. Vader Fel Omega is a list I have ready to go but not got round to running.

Played Whisper, Soontir and Omega list lastnight and did it fairly well. Need to improve my flying skills though.

Played Soontir, with howl and three regular ties against brobots and did well.

I am curious about the possibility of replacing soontir with echo though
