Size of Kylo Ren's shuttle

By maxam, in X-Wing

So in anticipation of possibly getting this bad boy in X-Wing some day, I was curious as to how big it would be. Are we talking about a 1:370 Epic like the Gozanti or non-Epic 1:370

The LEGO set is not something to go by as the scale for LEGO varies wildly...

Ditto for all the MicroMachines toys in the stores...

The new trailer that shows it landing didn't seem overly clear to me whether it was near or far to the Stormtroopers in the foreground...

Any ideas?

The Comic-Con behind-the-scenes footage as a shot of Kylo and troopers descending from a ramp set which is clearly meant to be the shuttle. That might help give some idea of size.

FFG added Ghost (pushing the limit). I'd expect this shuttle to be in as well.

If I''m looking at it correctly, the canopy section crosses the entire width of the nose and has TIE-cockpit-esque red lighting details around the inside edges, so the cockpit area isn't as wide, maybe the width of the bottom of the nose?

The round detail above the left side of the nose - is that a tank-style "hatch"? It seems to have a slit along the front edge, if it's following design precedent for tank hatches (various OT Imperial vehicles (AT-ST, AT-AT) pull surface elements from tanks) we /might/ be able to relate it to a human.

Now, if it's NOT scaled to that detail, we can see the bridge window but not enough inside to tell how large the cockpit area is - whether it seats 1 pilot, 2 staggered, 2 parallel, etc

How much of the shuttle do we see in those shots? Most other shots do not have good underside angles, so it could be hard to tell fuselage dimensions from the ramp alone.

My "~40m vertically"" guesstimate is based on panel density compared to the Lambda, as well as the scale of the lighting elements compared to same.

Take a look at the panels here:

Also, compare the cannon size to the wing chord at the root on both ships. It seems like the FO shuttle's wings have an equal or longer chord than the Lambda's central fin, and the span is relatively MUCH longer.

Well spotted! That's hopefully the case I'd love it to be non-Epic in scale! (fingers crossed)

Exactly - I'm hoping the "bridge" shots in the new trailer are in a Star Destroyer, not the shuttle...

OK - wow I just learnt about wing chords cool! (not sarcasm)

So, based on your estimates of wing size, how large/small would you guesstimate it to be relative to the Lambda?

^I grew up on aviation books, so...

Like I said, I was figuring 40m vertically (so landing gear to wingtips in upright position), I'm reasonable sure the chord detail bears that out but we really need good reference-able shots with people in them.

(that, or the ICS book that'll be out on release day)

Meh it just looks so dull.

Meh it just looks so dull.

It's grown on me (and no, not like a cyst)

"... tonight on Pimp My Shuttle we've got Kylo who really likes the colour black and Star Destroyers, but he's only got a lame-ass second-hand Lambda ... let's see what he thinks when we pimp his shuttle into a bad-ass black Star Shuttle Destroyer!"

Indeed - thanks!

yeah but if it comes to the game you are going to have to fly it with the wings folded!!!

Picture in the OP is the first time that this shuttle has looked even vaguely interesting to me. Question though. What will it have to set it apart from the Lambda and still leave both as interesting and useful choices?

Maybe a four dice attack to offset the Ghost but then much more expensive of course?

K turn!!!

I would have to say standard shuttle size.

Almost every piece of evidence I can find indicates it's larger than a Lambda. The question is whether it's just twice as big or more like ten times bigger.

I'm not sure what will set it apart from the Lambda, either. I'm sure we can find something, though.

Also, do the wings actually fold down? I thought they just did this weird extending thing?

Seems like it will be a tougher version of the Lambda. Maybe more crew slots. Probably gets the tech upgrade.

2 less hitpoints, but far better dial? EPT for sure.

I think the main body of the FO shuttle is pretty close to the size of the Lambda, just a tad bigger...BUT the wings are a huge *****. The lego/toy sets have the wings folding up AND collapsing down, so I think FFG will make it a Large ship with the new reverse-tripod stand like the Ghost. I imagine the designers are frustrated, trying to figure out the physical mechanics- I wouldn't wanna do it. But it's coming to Xwing weather we like it or not. :)

Do you have some inside information, or is this just a guess?

What I want to know is....beyond it merely being Star Wars, what is the purpose of the gigantic wings? When in flight they dont even move that far. Heck, at least the wings on the lambda kinda made sense as it was at least providing 3 points of maneuvering

Wingspan is going to be so awesome that it will require a huge ship peg -at least- to be playable on the board.

Everything I type is an opinion or a guess. I have NO insider info at all. :)

Here is an image with the boarding ramp lowered:

Lets be honest you don't need wings in star wars because of repulsor tech they are there as weapon mounts and heatsinks.

So you have to ask why those wings are there?

If they went down i'd understand a little but stuck up like that i dunno did the designer just really like wings?

Intimidation factor?
