Is there IMAX without 3D anymore?

I really hate 3D movies. Mostly because there are very few films that are actually made to be in 3D. Avatar was great, but it was unique. Most films today come out in 3D and have virtually no real 3D content. What happens is you end up having to pay extra, put on glasses, and get a headache watching these ridiculous 3D movies which are actually just 2D.

It darkens the film. It makes some of the parts of teh screen blurry if you end up getting a bad seat at a poor angle to the screen. And it can give headaches. And the worst part is that now Star Wars EP7 is falling in line with this. I don't want the blurry darkened mess, that is 3D movies, to be the way I see Star Wars - HOWEVER I DO want the high resolution that comes with IMAX - but it seems there is no middle ground. You either see it 3D, or you get stuck watching on a small low-resolution screen.

If you wear the glasses but cover up one eye with a patch then you can get that awesome 2D experience.

I have a sneaky suspicion the only reason they make 3D movies is to stop pirates making cam versions.

The Jurassic Park 3D re-release was surprisingly good. lots of stuff on the forground that gave it more depth than i was expecting.

Me*watching the movie*: "Ok, I know what's comming, Not gonna freak out when that raptor jumps up/leaps at the screen."

Me: " Wow, Great 3D and nice shot, you really have a sense of depth, like I'm actually in the crawlspace..."

Raptor: *jumps*

Me: "Gaah! Goddamit!"

3D can be a great effect but It will get overdone in the near future and is often thrown into the title just to take your $.

Trivia: the scene in the GIF is one of the first uses of CGI in a major release to change the appearance of an actor. The woman in the shot is a stunt performer, who wasn't supposed to look up, but the stunt performer pulling her up missed his cue by a moment.

The result was so realistic that the shot ended up being used anyway, and in post-production they digitally substituted Ariana Richards' face for the stunt performer's.

Also, theater 3D is an annoying gimmick I think movies would be better off without. Now you whippersnappers get off my lawn, y'hear?

You started it pops! With your Friday the 13th part 3, and your Jaws 3D and your House of wax (1953) and your Creature from the Black Lagoon! Point is: 3D has been around for a looong while.(and it's rarely been good)
