Punished just a bigger bomber?

By Dark Smog, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So this is playing on the idea of punishes just being bigger and slightly scarier bombers,

Deathrain

Proximity bombs, ion bombs, extra munitions and munitions failsafe

Redline

Plasma torpedoes, 2x advance homing missiles, extra munitions, accuracy corrector and failsafe

Scimitar Squadron

Plasma torpedoes, proton rockets and extra munitions.

Is this enough bang for buck or should I have Deathrain as a dedicated bomber and scimitar squadron as missile/torpedoe boats?

As always rip it apart and tell me where I've made errors

Munitions failsafe doesn't work with bombs, THAT would be dumb/broken. With this list Redline will not live long enough to shoot off 6 missiles because there is no defensive screen for him. Also Redline LOVES FCS...really no reason not to run him with it. Remember that failsafe only works once you have spent your Extra Munitions token because it only goes off when you discard the actual missile card, not the token on top of it.

+1 to FCS on Redline, it synergizes so well with his own ability.

What good is 2 target locks on 2 ships when I can only shoot at 1 at a time?

The other idea was

3x academy pilots

2x Cutlass squadron

Plasma torpedoes,

adv homing missile,

extra munitions

accuracy corrector ( just to make sure when the dice gods mess you around you can flip them the finger)

It's I know it's low pilot skill and the favoured Redline is not in it but oh well

Reread Redline's card, it's 2 TLs on the same ship, i.e. you can spend one TL to fire the missile and one to modify your dice. and FCS gives you the 2 right back after you shoot.

Ah I see, makes more sense.

I thought fcs only gives you 1 target lock back or does Redline ability kick in when you aquire target lock in any way?

"When you acquire a target lock, you may acquire a second target lock on that ship"

FCS lets you acquire a target lock.

Oh cool, so Redline with fcs and lots of things that go bang. And a swarm of tie fighters?

I'd rather have Homing Missile or Concussion Missile on the Scimitar. More useful. It's not that hard to get a TL if you play it well.

Unless I just do Redline with torp/ missiles to suit, and 2x Cutlass squadron with torps/missiles to suit

Probably get half decent loadout, only down side would be the agility 1

2x CM is redundant and makes him pretty worthless at range 3

Highly recommend plasma + cluster combo

Also tie mk2 is fairly redundant due to based FCS/boost. Thrusters for life.

They don't do much, but redline's such a massive porclean target that he needs all the help he can get. AT trigger merely once can save your life as it may be the crucial difference between CM annihilation or dying before you can fire another volley.

And yes, the punisher is a big bomber. Redline is what would happen if a scimitar ate jonus

Om nOm nom nom, and what about the Redline + 2 Cutlass punishers is it viable?

Right so updated squad is as follows

Redline :Plasma torpedoes, cluster missiles, extra munitions and fire control system

Back stabber: Targeting computer

Scourge : calculation

2x obsidian squadron Tie.

Is this a better list to be taking?

Backstabber's TC --> Redline's thrusters

Scourge's calculation --> Crackshot --> OR just Howlrunner

perfect

I have calculation on both the black squadron ties should I drop them and give howl summit?

No love for Assault Missiles on Redline? Your biggest fear as a low-Agility ship is a swarm and Assault Missiles take care of them.

So in that respect keep calculation on the obsidian?

Remember that failsafe only works once you have spent your Extra Munitions token because it only goes off when you discard the actual missile card, not the token on top of it.

This is wrong. Extra Munitions and Munitions Failsafe work together just fine. Extra Munitions allows you to spend the token when you are instructed to discard an upgrade. Muntions Failsafe moves when you are instructed to discard your upgrade to after you hit instead when you declare your target.

Trying this soon:

Heavy Bomber Wing

Redline: FCS, Extra Munitions, Plasma Torps, Cluster Missiles, Autothrusters (40)

Gamma Squadron: Extra Munitions, Flechette Torps, Cluster Missiles, Shield Upgrade (30)

Gamma Squadron: Extra Munitions, Flechette Torps, Cluster Missiles, Shield Upgrade (30)

With the shield upgrade, the bombers are just mini-punishers.

I think an Arc Dodger might eat it for lunch, though.

If you are worried about arc dodgers, switch out those Shield Upgrades for Conner Nets. The lower PS Gammas will be able to set their dials to where they know they'll get a hit with the Conner Net against a higher PS arc dodger.

Right so my 2 lists I'm torn between now for the event are

Redline : extra munit ions, plasma torpedoes, assault torpedoes, auto thrusters, fire control system

Back stabber

Darkcurse

2x obsidian squad tie fighters.

Or the other list being

Leebo: lone wolf, heavy laser cannon, anti pursuit lasers, recon specialist

2x grey squadron Y-wings: Twin Laser Turret

Which is more competitive or do I just revert to the 4x ywings with TLT?

whichever you practiced with is the most competitive. Redline is VERY skill intensive since his effectiveness is entirely determined by getting **** locked and killed; often at higher PS than him. There's no easy arc-dodging nor token turtling for him, oh no. It's kill or be killed!

Redline's list is, however, easily the most interesting to fly with and against

Look at this Redline build:

PILOTS

“Redline” (36)
TIE Punisher (27), Accuracy Corrector (3), Extra Munitions (2), Cluster Missiles (4)

Soontir Fel (35)
TIE Interceptor (27), Royal Guard TIE (0), Push the Limit (3), Autothrusters (2), Stealth Device (3)

Maarek Stele (29)
TIE Advanced (27), TIE/x1 (0), Veteran Instincts (1), Advanced Targeting Computer (5)

Im still fairly new. How does tjat list play? And how would you set up with it?
