Introducing Armada Warlords: database and fleet builder

By Nevetz, in Star Wars: Armada

As some of you may have already noticed, I've updated the card list view to better fill the space in the page. Now 1080p screens will always see a ship with a full 8-upgrade cards (the max possible) in a single row:

Unfortunately for non-full HD screens, this "feature" isn't still possible, but I'm working on a solution.

Thank you for doing such an amazing job with this!

Nev, since last night I haven't been able to really use the site because what card images appear where has been pretty random. By that I mean things like the custom commander card show up in the list of ships, and so on. I generally access the site via my phone, so maybe its a mobile issue? Please advise.

I changed the IDs of the new upgrades because they were overlapping over the custom commander one. Some lists that you could have written in a certain time, yesterday by the time of the Interdictor article (let's say a span of 10 minutes) may have problems on IDs, linking wrong ones instead of new ones. If you made a list during that time and it looks weird, scrap it and write a new one.

*DING DING DING*

I'd like to give to some intrepid hero the ALPHA version of the mobile fleet builder. It wont' save fleets, it won't edit fleets; I need someone who use Warlords as his main builder, because I need to understand and ask some things about the mobile version. As you may understand, the mobile version won't have all the card information that the traditional one has, so I need to take some decisions. If you want to help, PM me to enlist for an exclusive trip to the fantastic world of Armada Warlords test area.

Tests may start from next week.

edit: inscriptions closed! good luck to the heroes of code testing!

Is the fleet builder not working for anyone else right now?

It works for me but keeps losing the experimental upgrades on saved fleets. Very odd.

I'll test the alpha!!!!!!

What???

Last saved fleet was 5 minutes ago.. and it has an experimental retro saved.

First, thanks for doing this!

It's very nice to have a fleet builder support wave 3 and 4 so fast.

A slight request. Can you do something about the timeout you're using to auto log someone out of the site?

What has happened to me twice now, I've logged in, created a fleet ... got busy ... came back, hit save, get no error message, and turns out I've been logged out and my fleet didn't actually get saved at all.

Thanks!

Hey there tgall!

I don't use any auto logout script at all, it's just that at the moment I haven't enabled cookies on Warlords, so depending on your browser you may be logged out on session change. I have plans to add, of course, cookies to remain logged in, but since the "easy way" of the cookies is easily "hackable", I want to know more about more advanced methods of cookie management before activating them. I know the site isn't saving very valuable personal information, but I prefer to ship the entire update package all together and hopefully without the need to touch it anymore.

Sorry for the inconvenience, it bugs me too!

Forget me, I enabled them in a satisfying way. Just need to find one of that annoying "This website uses cookies etc." thing now...

If you had problems with some pages and got an "AJAX error" or something like that, it's fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Good enough.

After the FFG contest I'll update the fleet builder script and add a new security layer to the lists created on Warlords. While this won't change anything on the builder itself, I have to remind you that all links to the fleets won't work anymore, because I'm going to change the way the lists are linked via URL. Example:

http://armadawarlords.hivelabs.solutions/view_list.php?token=32706

This link won't work anymore. It will be something like

http://armadawarlords.hivelabs.solutions/view_list.php?token=9e07de46090fc23484429eb6237a2623 (this link actually goes nowhere.)

For security reasons, I cannot automatically update your fleets to enable this new layer (otherwise it would be reverse-enginnerable), so sorry for the big inconvenience, but believe me, it will keep your private lists as most private as you desire. If you have friends who share fleets using Armada Warlords, be sure to inform them too.

The update will go live after FFG will publish its winner, so there won't be any problem when linking the fleets during the event. I'll update this thread as soon as the new update is online.

Alpha version of the fleet builder is online. You cannot save any fleet for now, but you can already build any ship/squadron. I've put this public so that everyone can see and tell me what they think about it. It's not finished, as i'd like to implement some more things and information. Any criticism and ideas is welcome. Thanks!

I took a quick look at Alpha and the only problem I noticed was that all the upgrades were listed when you go to add a commander. Other then that I really like it. Works great on my iPad.

Ah... yep, you're right. That's kinda funny, I'm fixing it now.

Wait.... isn't it... today... that day...

Looks good Nevetz! Thanks very much for this.

The one request off the top of my head is for an option for even less information when selecting upgrades. I still end up scrolling a fair bit on my phone, due to the text of the upgrade cards. Could we get an option for only the upgrade titles when selecting (more akin to the objective or ship selection screens)?
