Nashtah Pup Mod?

By VillanyColorado, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Just reading through all of the Bossk questions, I thought I would post one that popped into my head;

Could you add a modification card to the Nashtah Pup if it were included in your total build (Not on any other ship, but on the Pup exclusively)?

I understand that the only thing transferred from the YV-666 is the pilot ability and the pilot skill, but having an upgrade in reserve is intriguing and the lack of any upgrades on the pilot card itself limits this, but, to the best of my understanding, all ships can run with a modification.

Thoughts?

It's in the faq. Can't link from work.

Page 8 of the FAQ:

The Nashtah Pup Pilot cannot be equipped with any Upgrade card.

Basically, the Nashtah Pup Pilot doesn't exist during list-building, only the title upgrade does, so there's no way to buy upgrades for it.

You can't use the Nashtah Pup exclusively in a build at all (for one it has no pilot skill). The only place the Nashtah Pup exists in the game is on the 'Hounds Tooth' Title, so without the YV-666 with Title in your build there is no way of getting it on the table & as stated above can't be equipped with any cards.

It's too bad. I feel it would fit the game nicely. In a way, it's almost a detriment to have a blank Z on the table with no support. Last time I played my dual YV-666 list, that is exactly what happened; when I found myself against a Falcon with 3 points left, I thought I almost had a shot, until I remembered the turret. It would be nice to invest in the endgame with a stealth device or even a shield upgrade. Instead of flying a naked target, I would like to feel that I have an ace up my sleeve, which, if I'm not mistaken, that is the intent of the Pup to begin with. Thanks for confirming.

Geez, it's a 6 point ship! What more do you want?

And it isn't that blank. If it has Latts Razi or Bossk in it, it has their pilot abilities. It has Moralo's too, but his doesn't effect the Z.

A 6 point ship that lasts more than a single move when facing a falcon. I have flown against a YT-1300/YT-2400 list twice and after the pup deployed he was immediately lit up. I am not expecting to end the match with the pup, but a single shot would make him worth the 6 points.

Which are both great, but they only apply if you get a shot in.

I'm not being unreasonable, am I?

Anyone fighting the Hound's Tooth know they're going to have the Pup to contend with also. And a good player will try and leave you very few options when it comes to deployment. And, yes, they're likely to pound it as soon as they can. I've put a 30-point Soontir Fel on the table and had him one-shot in the second turn a couple of times. That's the nature of this game. And for 6 points, at least you can take one more hit than Fel can.

It's a 6pt way of keeping a ship on the board, therefore keeping you in the game. Most lists don't have that failsafe.

You could get lucky and go on to win via that ship. That's pretty good. So no I don't think it needs anything added to it.
