Storage

By ElSee, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi all!

This may seem trivial, but I was wondering what you guys (and gals) use for storing your Armada stuff from week to week. I mean capitals, fighters, tokens, cards, everything. Mine are currently sitting in the two core boxes I have, but I really want (and need) to get better storage for it all. I've seen the Feldherr Maxi Bag and then there are the individual foam trays, but they seem a little expensive. I mean, two Victory's for a storage device?! I think it's cheaper to buy the individual trays, but then you have to find somewhere to store them all.

Then there's the issue with fighters. Two core sets, one of each squadron packs, a planned second (of each) squadron pack plus rogues results in a lot of fighter stands. Not enough space in the Feldherr foam trays, so would likely just end up going in a box.

What alternatives does everybody else use?

Also, how recommended are sleeves for cards? I only really play with my partner, don't have an Armada LGS and don't play tournaments. Plus, we're careful with cards etc, so they (and cards from other board games) have been fine so far. Sleeves haven't seemed necessary really, was just wondering if anyone would recommend them.

Last but not least, and unrelated to storage is the idea of a codex/consolidated rulebook. With new rules being introduced each wave, and FAQs being released every now and then, has anyone thought about making a "new" rulebook, not only consolidating and updating rules, but also providing more detail (since core rulebook wasn't exactly very descriptive). And, for those of us who aren't pro players (me), a codex (like Warhammer) that has points cost, potential upgrades, effects of things, dice rolls etc for each ship/card? Just curious because I was thinking about making something like that.

Thanks for reading :)

Having had Feldherr bags in the past I can say that they are great quality

I was using a shelf, now I use a Feldherr bag and I have to say I would highly recommend it. Completely worth the price tag.

Harbor Freight toolboxes and some foam, a solid piece at 1/4" and pluck foam at 1" thick.

I'll need to build a 2nd tier in the large box, and I keep my bases and fighters in a smaller box. I should be good through wave 2 maybe into wave 3. Maybe.

Cousin hooked me up with a Feldharr bag...amazing.

Feldherr all the way for me.

Just buy the customised foam and then put them into a GW hardcase. It fits brilliantly. I've got a case for my Rebs and a case for my Imps.

For tokens get the Feldherr plastic box they sell with the separators. Perfect in every way. For a neat freak like myself it keeps things organised.

Lots of positive feedback about the Feldherr bags then! I'll have to look into them.

I had considered a toolbox for Armada stuff. It's what I use for some of my other miniatures/boardgames, but since the Armada ships are so **** sexy, I thought I'd perhaps want foam for them.

Cheers all!

Whole collection in 2 x KR multicases, which I will have to expand to at least 3 with wave 2. Pricey, but firmly believe in not scrimping on storage. My entire GW miniature collection is also in KR cases.

Im all Feldherr for my Armada stuff.

I just bought a second one of these:

http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/flight-case-with-foam-n70ap

Pluck foam means it can fit different combinations of ships. I've got all my Core and Wave 1 in one of these so far, but with Wave 2 I'm splitting my Rebels and Imperials into different cases. Was a bit worried after seeing the size of the ISD that I'd need something larger, but it does fit (only just!) into there.

I've seen a few folk locally with Feldherr stuff too, and it looks pretty good.

I've sleeved my cards, but mostly because Armada is getting a lot of playtime from me at the minute, and I want to make sure the cards last. I've got the damage deck sleeved which can become a bit unwieldy, and prone to going everywhere if you're not careful with it.

I've been keeping the tokens and the like in my flight case so far, but since I'll be splitting my fleets I've also ordered a small plastic case with compartments to fit them all into which I can toss into my bag and bring with either fleet.

That was my concern about using sleeves for cards; that they won't stack and just go everywhere. Especially as I'm more of a casual player/collector etc, so the cards shouldn't get too frayed. And I like best stacks.

I think I need to invest in Feldherr storage then. I've been convinced! Now I just need to convince my partner to let me spend money...

KR are also good

I have KR for my 40k army and its perfect.

However I just prefer the layout of the Feldherr for Armada and the fact that it fits into GW hard cases perfectly

Well, I know those more expensive options are pretty great, but I like to save maximum budget for more ships!

I currently use a good sized tackle box I spent a whopping CND $40 on (less than a VSD)

In this box I currently comfortably store:

Core set including all cards and tokens, extra move tool, extra obstacles, laser line tool

Ships:

3 x VSD

3 X Gladiator

1 X ISD

2 X Imperial Squadrons exp

1 X Core set squadrons

4 x CR90

3 x Neb B

1 X MC30

2 X Assault Frig

2 X Rebel Squads

1 X Core set squads

All the token types (defense, command, etc.) get their own individual trays which is great for quicker setup.

The ships and squads can't stay on their bases but I find that it's sometimes easier to find the right squadron disk if they aren't assembled. There is still room in the case for the wave 2 ships I plan to get. It might get a little crowded if I go for 2x ISD and 2x CR80 but I can make it work if I separate the ship stands from the bases.

At the end of the day you save a ton of money and have a lot of room to grow without spending more and I don't see any damage to my ships (they are plastic, not porcelain and the box travels very gently with no shifting). I had to visit like 3 or 4 sores to find the right tackle box but I am very happy with it.

Ir recommend Sirwillibald's tuck boxes, two 4 liter really useful boxes and a backpack.

This is one of every ship and two squadron packs from the core set and wave one. I pack them into 2 - 4 liter "really usefulboxes" and then put them in an old backpack for easy carrying.

The thing I dont like about tackleboxes is the longevity of the models. After a decade of rattling around inside a tacklebox I think the paint will be really worn and small bits (vsd antenna, I'm looking at you!) broken off. And I hope to be using these models thirty years from now, so soft foam is the winning choice for me.

I think I do a modest job with the toolbox and pluck foam. I will need to make a 2nd tier in the box for Wave 2/3 depending how much I buy, but that's pretty easy with access to some metal scraps and leftover wood to make it. And it's honestly a fun way to enjoy the game without actually playing it, and I do like to build things, be it a storage solution, or working on a car or the house. But if you can afford the foam cases, I wouldn't stop you from getting them.

PS- I have a 2nd case with my fighters and the stands. That's getting full quick, but I haven't optimized that yet (nor is it as susceptible to damage as the ships are). The lids have containers where I store the small cards, dice, ect in both containers.

Those look great guys! I like the idea of pluck foam in a big tool box like that. It seems cheaper and protects the ships well. Fighters may very well just go in a case similar to Swusn's useful boxes, or SirWilli's tuck boxes though. They are rather unruly!

Thanks for all the help guys. I think I will be going for some foam for storage. I may buy the foams (or pluck foam) individually as it seems to be cheaper than the full Feldherr carry bag. I can easily put them in a tool box or in a couple of GW hard cases i have. Problem then is I need to find somewhere for the warhammer to go!

Sir Willibald's tuckboxes and two Core Set boxes. Going on budget till Wave 2 arrives.
