Movement dial upgrade kits appear to be real — coming in January

By Danthrax, in X-Wing

The cardboard ones look better.

I also have complete sets of every ship in the game besides for the HWK and T-70/TIE FO, this is in no way practical for me. Too much hassle to buy a handful just to end up continually swapping out dials, way too expensive to convert most/all my dials over.

They're not even glow in the dark. Absolutely despicable.

Man, I've heard the lighting at some of these tournaments can be a little dicey, but that's a little extreme, isn't it?

;)

I like the idea of being able to see my whole dial without carrying bits of paper around but I don't think I like it enough to spend that money on a single dial. Pegs, bases and dials I can pass on I think. Give me more spaceships!

It's actually a cool product, not gonna throw shade on anyone who wants these. But I have no interest in them.

Aw hell, I just realized these could be painted to match your ships/theme/whatever.

I'm probably going to crack.

An epic tale of self-discovery and understanding that will go down in the annals of history.

That's what I thought, then I saw it is a 3 pack.

Yeah, not gonna lie, deluxe Scum-green dials with matching bases and pegs? I'm already hosed.

Yeah, maybe they're adding in the ID tokens to each Wave 8 ship, which is why they haven't gone to the printers yet.

Yes, the fact that the models on display had the disclaimer 'pending licensor approval' obviously has nothing to do with it.

Just done the math and if we assume that these packs of three are going to cost £6.95 in the UK then it's going to cost me £206 to cover everything I have so far at least.

If I do them all a faction a month it doesn't sound too bad does it? :P

Whatever justifies your plastic addiction mate, there's no judgement here.

I'm in the 'they're cool but no thanks' boat. At $10 for 3, it would be at least $60 for me to have enough to be worth it. That's just too much money to spend on something like that.

Yeah, I didn't read fully before I jumped to conclusions. Still; very expensive venture to convert my whole collection. I'd rather have more toys :)

I wonder what online discounts might be? I could see me throwing in one to get an order over $100 for free shipping or something. Or maybe when I use my LGS loyalty card for a free $15, I could see getting one set.

Still....it makes me think what I can do right now to pimp out my dials. I already make custom TL tokens and ID chits. I should also just pimp out my dial with a printer and a glue stick. I can at least glue on the silhouette of the ships on the back of each dial.

...things to do when work is slow....

So I own 19 Rebel dials (I'd need seven three-packs), 24 Empire dials (I'd need eight three-packs) and 11 Scum dials (I'd need four three-packs). That's actually $190 worth. Geez. It adds up fast to the point that it's a crazy amount.

They always have that disclaimer on unreleased product.

I have way too many ships to convert them all; firmly in the camp of "thanks, but no thanks".

nice for people who really want them, as with the pegs and bases, but it's not my thing.

would have preferred another ship or two, some acrylic goodness, obstacles or whatnot.. just something more creative than these.

so: not hyped, not offended - just not interested in these ..

"these are not the droids products I'm looking for" ;)

It could be nice for those few ships that you always use. Doesn't everyone have at least one favorite pilot that they like to put in most lists? Maybe you have 3 pilots that you like to use often enough that you would get the packs? Doesn't have to be all of your ships, but just the ones you use on a regular basis.

Or maybe it's for the generics that you often use. It would be easier to tell them apart.

These are tempting for the long term viability of my dials. I will be playing this long after its out of print and no longer competitive. I want my dials to last. Hmmm.

Doesn't everyone have at least one favorite pilot that they like to put in most lists?

I don't. I have a ton of lists with X-Wings, A-Wings, Tie Fighters, Tie Advanced, ect... But no one ship that's in even 75% of my lists.

Ditto. It's the same with the acrylic tokens and movement templates: they look nice, but I'd rather spend my money on ships.

I bet these do catch on, because people like their bling.

Yeah I could see me getting some of these.

I have far to many ships to buy their for them all but for my most used, hell yeah .

Might be fun for Large ships only- would cost far too much to put them on *every* ship I own alas!

QS =D

Sounds like a wonderful prize for some tournaments.

I get that some people don't fly the same ships often enough, but I think a lot of people do. They either love their Soontir Fel or play Bro Bots often enough that these would matter. Also, for those tournament folk that play the same list in 100 matches before the year end, these will be good for.

Since I like the idea of knowing what ships are what with the dial down, I did a quick and shoddy job of gluing on some pictures on the bottom of my dials.

You can see some of my dials are well worn. I loved using Vader for the first 3 Waves.

I've only recently started having custom markings on my dials but it makes a sizeable difference being able to tell at a glance what dial goes where. That's part of why I like the idea of the housings; the extra protection is a nice bonus.

"Too expensive to do my whole collections. Crap product." is a dumb argument.

The whole point of them giving you the tokens to swap out ship IDs is so you don't have to buy one for every dial you own. The idea is to have enough for the maximum number of ships you'd run in a list for each faction, then you swap out the dial for whatever ships you're using that day. At most, you'd have to spend $60 to get 6 dials for each faction, which covers ever list except TIE swarm for imps and Z swarm for Rebs or Scum. And getting enough for all of those is only going up to $90. and even that is unlikely for most folks.

Other than the 'Crap product' bit I'm not sure I agree it's a dumb argument at all.

Perhaps someone (me for instance) doesn't want to be bothered messing about swapping dials in and out of these things and given the choice of either doing that or sticking with the standard dials they choose the latter. That's not to say that if they weren't as expensive they'd wouldn't prefer to have one for every single dial they own.

For the record I personally do think they're very expensive for what they offer and don't offer great value for money if you're going to be buying a lot of them. However I've pretty much decided that I'm going to get one for each of my dials eventually. I might not buy them all up front but I reckon buying a pack here and there until everything is covered won't hurt too much in the grand scheme of things.
